Attractive as well as efficient are our SECRETARIES: Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Permenter, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Fortney, Miss Martin, Mrs. Stair, Mrs. Rolirer, Mrs. Dallinger, Mrs. Moore, and Mrs. Campbell. NVhether We are checking out a book or com- pleting research Work, We can enlist the help of our skilled librarians, Besides maintaining an orderly library, the librarians teach students the use of the card catalog and the classification of books. As students scan the shelves, selecting their books, or browse through the well-stocked refer- ence rooms, they become increasingly more aware of the excellent facilities available to them. This awareness leads to student cooperation, and co- operation is a channel through which thanks may be expressed for the efforts of our librarians. Students are able to find their books and information more easily with the help of Mrs. Klingrneyer, Mrs. Laperriere, and Mrs. Bultman. T x ECRETARIE NVith the aid of each spoke, the wheel turns. Our school secretaries are the spokes that keep the wheel of activities at North Miami High run- ning smoothly. The club treasurers depend upon Mrs. Fortney to help keep their books straight. College-bound students are well acquainted with Mrs. Moore, the secretary in charge of transcripts, and our regis- trar, Miss Martin, keeps the school rolli' correct. Mr. Rice relies on Mrs. Campbell, his secretary, to assist him with administrative duties. To the tune of files banging and switchboards buzzing, our secretarial staff is the back- bone that supports our effi- cient school system. LIBRARIANS The librarians' load is eased by students help during the busy hours of the day. gg-nv:--'1,. ,K 31

BUSINESS ED CA TIO Stepping into the business world, graduates of North Miami Senior High School have been pre- pared by our Business Education Department. Students are offered training in every phase of busi- ness education. The skills of typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping are taught along with instructions on the use of many business machines. There is also on-the-job training for seniors. In the morning they attend classes and during the remainder of the day they work in various positions in the community. This training enables the student to cope with the problems they will encounter in the realm of business. Here, the students employ the results of long hours of tedious drill, of pecking typewriters, frantically taking dictation, and Work- ing with seemingly endless rows of numbers. Young people prepared in this department are equipped to take their place among the Working population of the World. ENGLISH Fascinating, intricate, and distinct . . . language is the difference between man and the lower ani- mals. Through language, bridges and skyscrapers are built, medicines discovered, and all life con- tinued. Man calls upon it to aid him in his quest for knowledge. He employs it as an implement to build and create, but sometimes he wields it as a weapon of destruction. English has many phases, all of which are thoroughly covered by these teachers. Grammar, which must be mastered to understand the basic principles of English, is stressed throughout the year. Appreciation and familiarization of the Great Works' of literature enriches our cultural education. Due to our large student body, our school also offers English by television. These classes have a half-hour program on television and a daily follow- up by the classroom teacher. Honors English is taken by students in the tenth through the eleventh grades, These courses give to our students a deeper meaning of our English heri- tage. The English teachers pictured below are: Mr. Murray, Mrs. Hicks, Miss Sunkel, Mr. Marin, Miss Barry, Miss XVhelp- 'W'-X-... Mr. Charles Cornell is the chairman of the English Depart- ment. ton, Mr. Wohlgemuth, Miss Grantano, Mrs. Davis, and Mr Miller. These are our 10th grade teachers. r- 'Z VV: aa., g Q M I . -,f,, f.
