Pioneers fight for yardage against Miami Iackson's Generals. There just wasn't any stopping Dade County's top scorer, Wally Flury, as he made touchdown after touchdown against Miami Iackson to create a complete rout over the Generals, taking them with a cool 19-0. End Letson Legs', Plant did an outstanding job during the game on everthing from catching long passes to tackling opposing team members. Also striking observers with his splendid open field form during the heated grid bout in the Orange Bowl was North Miamfs defensive half- back, Phil Caprio. Phil came amazingly close to hitting paydirt twice on punt returns. Iaxonvilleis Robert E. Lee High School swung their grid power over the Bogartmenis heads in the Gator Bowl, as their second in the state stand- ing topped all Pioneer efforts of attack. PIONEERS .IINX ,IA XSUN Pioneer Quarterback Chuck Fieldus breaks away for twenty yards against the Jax Lee Generals. 172 Arriving at the jacksonville field after several hours in the trains going up, tired and haggard they played as hard and as fast as they could, with Coach Bogart throwing all he could into it. But it wasnit enough. The Lee Generals, who were second only to Miami High's Stingarees in state competition, rolled over the Pioneers, through their defense, stopping their offense. Boarding the train with a 25-7 defeat, North Miamiis exhausted warriors returned. Their loss, by most, is considered to have been a direct result of the loss of End Bill Broeman with apendicitis, and VValter Kates, who had dislocated his shoulder.
