I Pioneer Pete Saponaro crumbles after short gain against Coral Cables. Coral Cables' quick Cavaliers stomied North Miarni's Bogartmen 13-O, despite fine play by the Big Threev, Fieldus, Flury, and Saponaro. Playing before 8,000 fans at the victor's field, the Pioneers played their hearts out for a last minute miracle. Power driving the ball to the Cava- lier 23 yard line in their final second desperation moves, they lost the ball and gave up the second six point scoring for the Cables team. In the remaining seconds the Cavaliers kept complete control of the pigskin, North Miami stayed two TD's behind. 169

PIONEERS T00 MUCH FOR NORLAND Pioneer head mentor, Red Bogart, analyzes the next play as North Miami advances against the Norland Vikings. A combination of an inexperienced Viking eleven and a determined Pioneer squad Was too much for a plucky Norland contingent as the Bogartmen emerged with a 33-12 victory. Flury ran the ball 60 yards for a touchdown on a punt returng his second came when he took a screen pass from Fieldus and ran 25 yards into the end zone. His third score came on a spectacular 72-yard run. Fieldus, Sapanaro, and Hungerbuhler each had six points, with Harry Pingston kicking three extra points. Eddie Gymrek, a Viking halfback, took a 16 yard pass from his quarterback to give Norland their first score, and their second and final score came with one minute to play as quarterback Larry Adams Went over from his nine. In net yards gained, North Miami had 357 yards compared to Norland's 197. 168 Norland runner is surrounded by Bogartmen when Pioneers and Vikings clashed. Defensive Pioneers move in. , .. 'P With five minutes to play the fired-up Bogart- men turned near defeat into a 40-27 victory before 7,000 screaming fans at North Miamfs field. With five minutes left in the game, Wally Flury ran 16 yards to put the Pioneers ahead for the first time in the game. Ninety seconds later Flury scampered 35 yards to wrap up the victory. There was no stopping the Pioneers after that. For insurance Tommy Thomas, the big linebacker for North Miami, barreled 40 yards on an inter- ception for the final touchdown. Fieldus connected on five of eight passes for 113 yards and scored the Pioneeris first touch down on a one-yard sneak.
