COCLCAQJ ,Asks I if hw.- Sullivan Three men, who have been with North Miami for periods ranging from seven to three years, have brought honor and notice to our school. In 1959, in Gainesville the track team, head- ed by Coach Sullivan, won our first state title. This is a man who was an All City football player in Pittsburgh in 1941 and 1942, and went on to win himself a scholorship at the University of Miami in that sport in 1947 and 1948. With the assistance of Coach Bradey, he coached football at St. Maryls and in a two year period they won sixteen and lost only one game. Next he went to coach basketball at Archbishop Curley. Three years ago he took over the job of coaching track at North Miami and has done us proud. On that same day, in St. Petersburg, a man by the name of Auer was watching his girls' swim- ming team surge on to a hard fought state victory. Taking over the old job of Coach Pete Stamos three years ago was not an easy thing to do, may- be even the biggest victory Coach Auer had. VVhen he attended Syracuse his fellow students f7Ae Auer Hyrne considered him to be one of the best swimmers on the team. He still holds a record there in the 1500 yard freestyle. For a while he coached foot- ball and basketball in a small town in Pennsyl- vania, and then moved on to teach gym at Miami Shores Elementary. During the years he was there he would come over to assist the Aqua Ducks at their workouts. It's 1960 and back to Gainesville, this time in the gymnasium, we see five boys working up a storm to trounce Miami Edison for the Class AA basketball victory. On the sidelines, not too far away, stood Coach Fred Hyrne. A man who had his athletic career interrupted by the war, and went back after it-to play football at Xllittenburg College in Ohio, Coach Hyrne has been at North Miami for seven years as basketball coach. To these men North Miami High owes a great deal of thanks. They have coached their teams along right to the top and gave us our first state titles. Poge Two Hundred Sixty-One
