Slowly wmdmg its way across the plains a wagon train depended solely upon the ab1l1ty of the wagon master and scouts for the success of 1tS journey Careful scouting and planning spelled the d1fference between 3Cl116XlHg 1ts goal or failing A water hole a day too far away a food shortage an attack by Indians and the elements working agamst them These were the problems of the pioneers In the same manner we depend upon the capab1l1ty of the wagon master our principal and the scouts the teachers for our success or failure These modern day Pioneers are contlnually opening to us vast new flelds of knowledge and feedmg us with the results of years of study and patience Americans today are no longer fighting Indians but our of the mrnds of tlns era s young people The wagon master receu ed a smile of thanks at journeys end and was content for lns ads enturous spirit and his des1re to be part of some tlnng great were lns prime reasons for going VVest The scouts reward vsas the successful completion of a treacherous journey So today the teachers greatest reward IS IH seeing one of his students HCl'l1CVlI1g h1s goal and happy in his achiex ement VVagon master and scouts these are the prophets the leaders the ones who mfluence eternity Past present and future these are the greatest Pioneers of all tune Y I ' C . 7. .
