Mary Batchellor, Kevin Newberry, Jeanne Woodruff, and Dawn McClellen take it easy in the shade. Randy Cowley, Debbie Bohn, Ed Albers, and Debbie Byrd retreat back to childhood days. Janet Jones gets rid of her students the easy way. Tammi Bush and Jimmy Holcomb are the students. The Pony Express received a first division All Texas Rating with special honorable mention from the Texas High School Con- vention in December. The paper placed run- ner-up to the winner in 4A division. In March, the newspaper received an award of Honor from the interscholastic League Press Conference in Austin. Some members competed in the Spring University Inter- scholastic League contests. Kevin New- berry, senior, placed first in Headline Writ- ing, third in News Writing in District and first in headline writing in Regional to qualify for state. Mary Batchellor, junior, also placed first in District UIL competition in News Writing and Editorial Writing. ln the Dallas Times Herald Journalism Day competition, Donna McKee placed first in news writing and Mary Batchellor placed second.
