CURRICULAR This year the English teachers strove to improve the department by making a few changes. ln previous years, seniors were required to take British Literature, but not so this year. British Literature is an elective now. Members of the senior class had a greater variety of electives from which to choose. The new courses were offered to spark further interest 1. Duringapep rally,Mrs.Ellenlohnston read one of her many poems about North Mecklenburg High School to the student body. 2. One day in the library, Linda Cavin and Eva in the study of literatu re. Three of the new courses offered were Science Fiction, the Bible as Literature, and the Feminine Image in Literature. The English Department added in- creased interest in classes by inviting speakers in to speak to the classes. One such speaker was the Rev. Ran- dal Dockins speaking to the Bible as Literature class. Morris, members in one of Mrs. Maye's Eng- lish classes, listened for directions. 3, Mrs. Johnston was pleased to autograph her book for Helen Morris, and Mary Clark waited to ask of her the same honor.
