Mlilbanks offered a resolution to the Board that the position of Superintendent of Schools be created. li. B. Gardner, then principal of the high school, was elected to this position. He was succeeded in l9ll by D. L. Paisley who first suggested that the high school be made a four-year institu- tion, and during whose administration Argenta High School was constructed. Then Supt. Paisley changed the secondary pattern front two years junior high and four years senior high to the three years junior high and three years senior high plan which is still used. ln the fall of l9l8 Mr. Paisley left North Little Rock to become superintendent of schools at Hope, and li. H. XVhite, principal of Senior High, was temporarily appointed superintendent. During the ensuing year, john. H. Hineman, former superintendent of the School for the Blind was made super- intendent and served for several months. He was succeeded by li. B, Gardner who returned after an absence of eight years. He was given a two-year, contract, but at the end of the first year, because of differences of opinion and an upheaval in the town, the Board asked for his resignation. interest was to be spent each year for the purchase of books for the high school library. The fund is still in use. ln the fall of l92I, the North Little Rock schools opened under the superintendency of T. G. Abbott who had just received his Nlaster's Degree from George Peabody College. lt took an almost unlimited amount of courage, patience, and lilct - as well as hard work - to reorganize the schools, but Mr. Abbott soon had them in excellent condition. During that year, H. H. Hill, who had just received his Master's degree from the University of Virginia was made high school principal and taught several classes in Spanish in addition to his adntinistrative duties. His faculty included fourteen teachers. Mr. Hill was succeeded by Nolen M. lrby. But in june ISP23, both Mr. lrby and Mr. Abbott left North Little
