mm' lfourlli Street junior High. 'l912--- XVith a massive and sturdy beauty all its own. Ar- genta High was constructed from the architectural de- sign of Charles L. Thompson. Built without the aid of large machinery, its excavations were done by mule- drawn scrapers. At four feet they struck quicksand. Nfr. Thompson and contractor George YV. Ifair tested it by putting down frame platforms weighted by lead, and soon found out how much pressure the sand would take. Then they put in the foundation at an angle and installed a system of pipes to carry off excess water. The entire top floor was added when the building was reconstructed following a disastrous fire in Septem- ber 1925. Toflnyfx' Sfriloi' lligll.

It was so much larger and more beautiful than any other school North Little Rock had ever had, that neither teachers nor pupils complained about its lack of sewers and sanitary plumbing features 'I929--- The handsome walls of today's Senior High crested another hill nine blocks north.
