66444 Qfcbfwzq ln the fall of 1958, our group entered the halls of North Lima for the last time as high school stu- dents. Back with us was Harry Arkwright. Yes, we were about to embark on the busiest year of our high school career. Under the able leadership of Mr. Ward, who helped to ease our problems, we sponsored record hops after the home basketball games, sold candy, pencils, pennants and plaques, with the aid of Mrs. Burge we edited the Lima Lite, and with the guidance of Mr. Fabilli we published THE ECHO and we also sponsored the annual steak dinner. This year, under the direction of Mrs. Desimone, we chose Finders Creepers, a mystery-comedy, as our class play. At midyear the last member of our class, Frank Zagotti, enrolled. Now we were forty-three. An out- standing event of the year was the new addition. We believe that the combination gym-auditorium is the most and we are eagerly looking forward to gradua- tion as we will be the first group to hold graduation exercises in the new building. Let's look back over the events leading up to this, our most important event . . . For quite sometime many eager little people had been anxiously looking forward to a special day. Yes, thats right. First Grade!! Well, the long anticipated day in September of '47 had at last arrived. We ven- tured into a new phase of our lives not knowing quite what to expect. With the patient guidance of Mrs. Mentzer and Mrs. Laughlin, however, we became acquainted with our new surroundings. Eighteen mem- bers of our present senior class were in that first grade class. In second grade Miss Wellman and Mrs. Laughlin were our capable teachers. This year our problems and our reading were a little more difficult. Margaret McMeans and Shirley Vitko joined our class. Our third year was one of many new faces. Merle Bowen, Thelma Coler, jim Connaughton, julia Dat- son, Dick Dillon, Beverly Francis, Ed james, Deanna Mellott, Mary Belle Mills, and Roger Schindler helped to swell our class. Mrs. Haney and Mrs. Wetter guided us through the first difficulties of writing and English. Mrs. Heinl and Mrs. Kulik were our teachers in fourth grade. Nancy Firestone, Bonnie Wilhelm and Lee Moore joined our class. At the end of the year we were all looking forward to fifth grade with the exception of Margaret McMeans, who left at the end of the year. This year in the fifth grade we had our first money-making project under the guidance of Mrs. Griffiths and Mr. Steiner. We sold flower and vege- table seeds. We also had two new faces in our class, those of Ruth Ann Sigle and Bill Gasser. They helped to fill the gap left by Roger Schindler who left at the end of this year. As sixth graders we advanced upstairs. Some of us had Mr. Steiner as our teacher again and the rest of us were across the hall in Mrs. Brady's room. We were very happy to say Hi to Margaret McMeans who had rejoined our class. junior high at last and with it the thrill of changing classes. Mr. Himes and Mr. Bohannes helped us through the confusion. We welcomed two new stu- dents into our class, Delmar Houser and Leonard Huffman. We all looked forward to the close ofthe year when we had our first class picnic in Mill Creek Park. This was our last year of junior high and our last stop before high school. Mrs. Burge and Mrs. Erich were our sponsors. At the end of the year we all took the dreaded eighth grade tests and bid jean Orr Good-bye. Freshmen! Gee, we felt grown up. We were naively happy. This year for the first time Freshman Initiation was outlawed. We had our homeroom in the study hall with Mr. Burkholder as our sponsor and we were happy to welcome Roger Schindler back into our class. Our sophomore year was highlighted by our maga- zine sales campaign. Mr. Burkholder was our sponsor again and we still had the study hall as our home- room. Bea Rouse joined our class along with jean Orr who decided she just couldn't do without us. We were sorry to see Harry Arkwright leave at the end of the year. We started our junior year with a bang when we received our long awaited class rings. It was at this time that Loretta and jerry Grossen joined our ranks. For the third year we had Mr. Burkholder as our sponsor and the study hall for our homeroom. The last semester we had the candy sales andpresented our class play Off the Track under the direction of Mrs. Desimone. Our biggest undertaking of the year was the junior-Senior Banquet to which we devoted much of our time and efforts . . . Now with commencement activities under way and our goal in sight, we are beginning to feel a pang of regret that one of the happiest times of our lives is fast drawing to a close. When we leave, we'll take with us many memories, happy and sad, that we will always cherish. Before leaving we would like to thank all those who have helped and guided us along the way and to welcome the juniors to the seat of honor.
