Iii-l Class History Now that we asc at the end of our twelve year school career, let's reminisce through the past years back to the late summer of '46, Right now most of us were counting the days with anticipation until our debut as a student. After the days, which seemed like years, passed, the bright fall morning arrived. Can't you remember your first entrance in the first grade? Through the guidance of Mrs. Mentzer-and Mrs. Warner, we soon became adjusted to the school routine. Now we were down to the project of learn- ing to read and write, interspersed with much play. As the year comes to an end, we were all appre- hensive as to whether weid pass or remain in the first grade. All tolled up though-19 of our grad- uating class were promoted to the second grade. Now for our next climb in our school career, we started our second year. This year we felt important and like big shots compared to the little first-graders finding their way through the halls. This year we were doing more difficult number problems, along with reading harder books. But with our teachers', Miss Mentzer and Mrs. Laughlin, good explanations of the new work, things weren't so bad after all. After passing another summer we returned to school for our third time. This year Harvey Hartley, our future class president, became the 20th member of our present class. This year we were all in one room under the direction of Mrs. Haney. We were introduced to multiplying and dividing, along with English and geography. In fourth grade we were greeted by Richard Evans and' Ed Arkwright. Some of us had Miss Lehman, while others had Mrs. Wetter for our teacher. This year was highlighted by our boys playing basketball at noon. The glorious event was the time we beat the fifth grade. As we entered the fifth grade, some of us were in Mrs. Griffiths' room, while others of us were sent upstairs to Mr. Steineris room. It was this year that Tom Wince joined our class. I Our last step preceding Junior High was the sixth grade. Again we were separated, some of us went to Mrs. Brady's class, others to Mr. Steiner's. Leonard Hiney, our science whiz, joined our class this year. It was in the spring of this year, construc- tion on the new building started. The next fall we entered the seventh grade. This too was a big adjustment-going to a different room and having a different teacher for every sub- ject. It was.very amusing to sit in study hall and watch the upperclassmen study and goof off. This year the boys were introduced to shop, while the girls had a course in home economics. Remember our sponsor, Mr. Himes, and the thrill of our first class picnic at the end of that year? Another high- light during the seventh grade was our science class under the direction of Mr. Nespeca. Remember the bird hikes? Our next year of Junior High was our last step before high school. This year Mae Peterson and Sandy Riffle joined our 'class. Mrs. Erich and Mrs. Burge were our sponsors. It was this year that our Junior High basketball team won the county championship. At the end of this year, we took the long-dreaded eighth grade test, but we all man- aged to pass on to the ninth grade. As Freshmen, again we had the study hall as our home room under the direction of Mr. Kuhlman. After our initiation, we became accustomed to our new studies and were introduced to many new extra- curricular activities, such as the chorus, band, and athletics. At the end of the year we again had a pic- nic.

fHislory continued! One of the first events of our Sophomore year was the magazine drive. This was a great success for over 351,000 was taken in. Mrs. Perry also helped us in our other activities, along with the Sophomore play at the Community Institute. This year most of us joined the Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y. Uur next year as Juniors was a very busy one. Much time was spent in activities to boost our treasury. We sold candy at noon, and at the bas- ketball games. We also sponsored the Junior-Senior Banquet. Then too we put on the play Professor, How Could You? under the direction of lVlr. Kuhl- man. Fortunately our sponsor, Mr. Fabilli, was very helpful to us during this busy year. Linda Gray joined our class this year. ln the fall of '57 we entered the halls of North Lima to begin our last year of our twelve year climb. With Mr. Ward as our sponsor and class officers, Harvey Hartley, Dave Lawless, Sandy Rif- fle, and Dennis Ackerman, we concluded our fund raising activities with the play, record hops, and the steak supper. We also were in charge of the pub- lications. All of us were in some activities, clubs or athletics. There were many more important events, too numerous to name. Wefve had many experiences throughout these twelve years, which will always be remembered. Yes, these twelve years, along with their joys, sorrows, and friendships, will be cherished forever.
