Of 1956 CLASS PROPH LCY It was a lazy evemng the klnd when you Just lxke to stretch out 1n front of a flre place and dream and thlnk about thmgs you ve done and thmgs you re golng to do A you do thls you get sleepler and sleepler and then xt happens all of a sudden especial ly when you aren t expectmg lt It was Tom Mellott Why I hadnt seen htm for over twenty years He stlll had the same smtle and that old twlnkle ln h1s eye but h1s ha1r had a llght unge of gray m xt I asked h1m what he had been domg Of course lt was h1s llfe ambltlon to become a football coach and he had been very successful ln tratmng young athletes Tom then mentloned that Kevan Crouse was asslstant coach for hls professlonal football team and was qulte a success We talked for awhlle and I asked htm lf he had seen any of our former classmates He Sald that he hadnt Then as a flash of hghtmng ln came Pat Nelson Leah Culp and Al1ce Welsenberger dressed ln whlte They dzdnt say much just looked our way and smlled but we could tell by thelr appearance that they had acqulred h1gh posltlons 1n the fleld of nursmg There was a httle pause and Gerald Huffman and Jtm Burkholder 1nt1mate sclentlsts walked through the room We gathered that they were dtscussmg a trlp to an unknown planet Agaln there was a httle haze ln the room and two well known flgures came mto vlew Jlm Cearns and Jake Vanpelt bxg game hunters who had recently returned from Afrlca on a hunt of a strange specles of elephants Almost lmmedlately Pat Lawless and Joan Shoup walked 1n and we knew at once they must have been alrlme hostesses then they left as qulckly as they had come We noticed that wlth them was Don Ackerman and by h1s umform we reallzed he must have been an atrlmes pllot Th1ngs became confused and suddenly a loud roar was heard Soon mto our mldst walked four well dressed men lmmedlately recogmzed by us as the Four Lettermen They were Dean Conrad Don Roller Dave Cllngerman and Loren Coler The four had really made a big hlt ln the muslc world and as they left we heard a few bars of thelr recent record mg Thmgs seemed vague agaxn and then the roar When thls tlme lt stopped ln walked Lee Brooke famous Dare Devtl and h1s ace mechamc Larry Houck They didnt stay long because Larry had the new brake to fxx on Lee s famous car We rea soned thls was why he hadnt stopped the flrst time Then ln walked lanky Bruce Plasket basketball star for the New York Nlckerbockers who had made headlmes all over the world Tlme passed then and after some time 1n came Phyllls Barger and Mary Brunk who were dressed m latest styles We then recalled that they owned the smartest shop on Fifth Avenue ln New York In thexr place came B111 Kreldler mllllon axre owner of Kreldler Constructlon Company and h1s Vxce Presldent John Bauman They looked handsome and dlgmfled They too left very qutckly There was a llght as brlght as a star and m walked the most promlnent actress of the t1me Judy Roller who had Just fmxshed her latest motion plcture She talked to us for awhlle but soon left After thxs dellghtful scene ln came Carolyn Bauman and Henry Nemenz who seemed to be dlSCUSSlng educatlon of the present and Leonard MCGIHDIS co-owners of Mercury Motor Company tn North Lxma Next came a personallty we both recogmzed as none other than Larry Freer star of the T V show Smllmg Larry a favorlte of all the klddles Accompanymg h1m was the producer Rlch Mentzer Thlngs became foggy agaln then clearer as Lots Anderson Karen Close and Nancy Garrett partners of the foremost restaurant 1n the Umted States came before us then vamshed A Tom got ready to leave he said What have you been domg VIary I replxed that I had been teachmg physlcal tramlng at Oh1o State Umverslty As he dlsappeared I woke up wtth a start and reallzed that lt was only a dream funny dream at that But as they say dreams come true and tlns dream dld for the Class of 56 was a success Page 'I tentx lhru 4 ' - . . . . . .
