Of 1956 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In September of 1944 twenty-One members of our class entered our school a little hesitant and frightened of our new venture Although we were in separate rooms some of us formed frtendships that have lasted throughout our twelve years of school life Under the capable guidance of Miss Swope and Mrs Mentzer we weathered our first years and became adjusted to school In second grade we were joined by Pat Lawless a future majorette and Bruce Plasket destined to star ln basketball Though a few of us continued to enter Miss Swope s room most of us were directed across the hall to Miss Cottom Then in third grade Mrs Haney instructed us in more difficult phases of arithme tic Though we all enjoyed third grade we were glad to be promoted to Miss Lehman s room Here Pat Nelson who has a keen sense of humor Joined us In fifth grade Mrs Griffiths led us through this part of our school career Here Dean Conrad entered and contributed his musical ability Then we were finally upstairs where we were divided again some going to Mrs Bradys room others to Mr Stemers This year we were Joined by Tom Mellott whose talents ranged from art to football Leonard McG nms and Jerry Morey two stars for our future athletic teams were added An expert manager for our athletic activities was gamed in the person of Richard Mentzer Loren Coler added his scholas tic ability to our class We tested our salesmanship by selling flower and vegetable seeds Finally we were 1n Junior high Nancy Garrett Joined us for the first thrill of chang mg classes Mr Himes led us through the first year of our high school career He or gamzed a safety patrol consisting of seven boys who helped to protect the pupils while crossing the street In December we were Joined by Carolyn Bauman whose lovely soprano voice has enriched our choruses We climaxed the year by a PICHIC at Mill Creek Park great talent With Mr Nespeca as our adviser we finished our eighth year of school Freshman We started four of the busiest and happiest years of our school l1fe Under the sponsorship of Mr Kuhlman we had a skating party and several class soc ials This year we gained a freckled faced redhead by the name of Gerald Huffman We moved on to tenth grade and were Jolned by Lois Anderson who proved to be a hard worker but very carefree With Miss Warrick s help we increased our class treasury by a skating party and a very successful magazine campaign Most of us were engaged in extra-curricular activities such as the school paper sports and clubs In our eleventh year we took on even more actlvities We sold refreshments at part of the home football and basketball games and durmg the second semester at the noon hour We also set up a coat checking booth at the home games We held a Jam boree and presented our class play The Perfect Idiot With the capable leadership of Mr DIGFSQOFIO we made enough money so even the Junior Semor Banquet did not break us Don Roller Joined us the second semester to round out our class Finally we filled out our last enrollment blank for North Lima School We immed lately plunged into our busiest but happlest year Our first Job was to publish the Lima Lite Then under the direction of Miss Stackhouse who always made allowances for all our activities which always seemed to be at the same time as our English class we publlshed the Echo We sold basketball pencils and candy and sponsored rec ord hops after the home basketball games Our semor play Qult Your Kidding u der the direction of Mrs Perry was a very successful project besides being a lot of fun Finally the end drew near and we attended the first of the commencement activi ties the Junlor Senior Banquet then Baccalaureate and Commencement The class of 1956 had reached its goal and though we are glad to assume our roles in the adult world we will never forget these twelve years the happiest years of our hves Page fuentx Om In eighth grade our boys played on the junior high basketball team and showed . . . , . -
