Speech Speech is our most essential means of communication. In speech classes the student is given an op- portunity to grow in poise and self confidence by developing proper speech habits. Speech therapy classes help students overcome speech problems by letting the student discover the reason and then derive a solution for the dif- ficulty. Mr. Phillips conducts a speech therapy class. Dave Limerick attempts public speaking methods for Mr. Taylors speech class.

Bands The bands, under the direction of Mr. VanderHagen, have contrib- uted more than class time to our school. Extra time has been spent in preparation for the solo and ensemble contest and the state band contest. Their new facilities have helped them when they presented several concerts, one of which featured Harold Jones, a guest professional percussionist. Before the football season began, the band was on the field practic- ing for their colorful football exhibitions. The twirlers and the Pom Pom Corps were integral parts of the marching band and highlighted many of the half-time shows and parades. Members of the Pom Pom Corps are Top: Sherri Reed, Mary Jan- kowski, Ellen Baughman, Betty Ulbricht, Debby Fields, Lyanna Wolfram, Barb O ' Connor. Bottom: Cheryl Huff, Gayle Targett, Lea Suit, Mary Albert, Laurie Kaser, Lynn Bauman, Sandy Fisher. 49
