8 - April Bobby Fortner is Elected First Male Yell Leader Many students were absent from school during the spring as they participated in district and regional sports and U.I.L. events. Students were also occupied with the various tryouts, conventions, and banquets. For the first time in the history of North Lamar, a boy was chosen as Varsity Cheerleader when Bobby Fortner won the honor, The library held a book fair for students, and the science classes participated in the fifth annual science fair which was held in the gym. Some North Lamar Students participated in the Annual lunior Livestock show which was held at the fairgrounds. Tryouts and rehearsals were also held for the Senior Play, Here Come the Brides which was to be presented later in May. 10- May Pantherettes Finish Fourth in State Meet The end of school, as always was very busy, The band went to contest, and they also had a spring concert. Seniors put on a play called Here Come the Brides. Athletes were once again honored with the All-Sports Banquet which was held in the High School Gym because of the anticipated crowd, and the speaker foir the banquet was Mike Ditka. The junior High Gym was the scene of the junior- Senior Prom, junior and Senior girls decorated the gym to match the theme of 'We May Never Pass This Way Again. Rabbit provided music for the Prom. Kartridge Korner provided music for the breakfast following the prom which was held at Paris Golf and Country Club. Girls' Track Team traveled to Austin to participate in the State Track Meet and finished in fourth place. ln literary events, jeff Draper won first place in Number Sense in State U.l.L. Competition. As tradition goes, the 1980 Yacht arrived late. Final- ly, on May 21 the book was handed out to students with sufficient time left for signing books. Clubs started winding up their year's activities by having parties to spend the money which they had earned during the year. Boys baseball team fell in a bi- district series to Linden-Kildare. The big day finally arrived for the Class of '8O. Many students were glad that the end of the year had arriv- ed, but for many of the 120 Seniors this was not the case. As they said goodby to their friends and teachers, the 1980 school year was brought to a close with mixed emotions. tTopj Congratulations! Loretta Cooper receives her first place medal in the 200 Meter Run. I tBottom Leftj Sexy Ladies! Beth Dressler observes Scott McCloure and Paul Howie as they wait to go on stage at the Senior Play.
