Ringing Bells, Parties, Concerts Crowd the Christmas Season Most of the Christmastime activity was cen- tered around clubs as some kind of service pro- ject was underway just about all the time. The Salvation Army was aided by numerous NL clubs as they rang bells at the more than six different booths located around Paris and donated money and Christmas baskets. All of the club activities weren't service projects, thoughg Latin Club went to Dallas shopping and to eat supper at the Reun- ion Tower. Math lub members had an old-fash- ioned Christmas party where candy and decora- tions were made for the Drake family, and most organizations took advantage of their one or two out-to-eat days per year. As if they weren't wild enough already, sched- ules were disrupted even more for a magic show by Sammy Cunninghamg club and organizations pictures on the same day as the bands' formal Christmas concert, and completely torn up by the first cancelled school day tue to ice coming an entire month early. The hectic month finally ended with a class party in just about all the teachers' classes and a Christmas program for the high school and junior high student bodies by the combined choirs. Can you get out of it? Sammy Cunningham checks to see if Bobby Cochran can escape from his trap at the magic show, Kristi King. 26 0 December Assignment today: Party: Students in Mrs. Brown's third period English class spend the last day before Christmas vacation by taking it easy. Juniors Win Spirit Chain, Pantherettes Take District Championship NL held its first annual UIL Math and Science meet the first week after Christmas vacation where Charles Draper won first in Number Sense and the NL Math Team won third place. Club activities kept going full speed ahead with the Spanish Club hamburger supper and Tri-Hi-Y chili supper before basketball games, and the Beta Club started off the convention season when twelve members and two sponsors attended the San Antonio convention January 19-21 . The Math Club again sponsored the spirit chain for the second Prairiland game, and Junior class completely out- did the others with their winning chain. It wasn't the announcement of the spirit chain winner at that game that was the outstanding feature, though, the Panther- ettes came out on top to grab a district playoff spot against Prairiland where two weeks later they won the District 15-AA championship. Also on the night of the play off, there were other NL students making their district mark: sixteen band members took up 18 spots in the All- District band, and a month before, twenty-one NLJH band members also gained district spots. in addition to the Valentine's activities - Beta carna- tions and Valegrams and the Valentine Dance - and nasty weather, February brought the extra hassles of research papers, exams, and the final Yacht deadline made more worrisome by the arrival of 80 pages of proofs. Just finished ten more: Math club members Sheryl Gribble and David Townsend spend extra time uttin to ether the several thou- D Q 9 sand links needed for the Spirit Chain. 28 0 January, February l -J-J l ' . ,, D . -Inq L., 'iw f f' This one's for you: Beta Club member Sharon Simp- sen presents Donna Morris with a Valentine carna- tion.
