M- U Taking it all in: Melanie Truan listens as prepara- tions for winter money raisers are made at a monthly Tri-Hi-Y meeting. NL Wins First KPRE Spirit Trophy Over Paris High, Prairiland Panther fans have always known that they have lots of spirit, but it was a proven fact after the results of the first KPFiE spirit contest were releasedg NL had more spirit slips than Prairiland and even more than AAA Paris High, and the KPRE Spirit Trophy found its first home in the NLHS office. Football season finally ended with a tailgate picnic before the Clarksville game and the Beta Club Hamburger Sup- per before the last game fwith Prairilandb of a winning season which found Pan- thers in second place behind Winnsboro in District 15-AA. The band ended the season with a space show including bal- loons, fireworks and even Darth Vader and the annual end-of-football season party complete with films of the first Pan- ther Marching band. Marching wasn't quite over, though, as they street- marched for the first time in the Paris Christmas Parade on November 285 Key Club and Varsity Cheerleaders also rep- resented NL in that event. Many clubs were active in November alsog Tri-Hi-Y members rode in their annual bike-a-thon around the loop, new Betas were initiated in a semi-formal initi- ation, Math Club took a field trip to DeVray Institute of Technology and ate lunch afterward at the Spaghetti Ware- house, and Latin Club members jour- neyed to ET along with Spanish Club for the foreign language workshop four days before their Saturday bake sale at Mira- beau Square. Ringing Bells, Parties, Concerts Crowd the Christmas Season Most of the Christmastime activity was cen- tered around clubs as some kind of service pro- ject was underway just about all the time. The Salvation Army was aided by numerous NL clubs as they rang bells at the more than six different booths located around Paris and donated money and Christmas baskets. All of the club activities weren't service projects, thoughg Latin Club went to Dallas shopping and to eat supper at the Reun- ion Tower. Math lub members had an old-fash- ioned Christmas party where candy and decora- tions were made for the Drake family, and most organizations took advantage of their one or two out-to-eat days per year. As if they weren't wild enough already, sched- ules were disrupted even more for a magic show by Sammy Cunninghamg club and organizations pictures on the same day as the bands' formal Christmas concert, and completely torn up by the first cancelled school day tue to ice coming an entire month early. The hectic month finally ended with a class party in just about all the teachers' classes and a Christmas program for the high school and junior high student bodies by the combined choirs. Can you get out of it? Sammy Cunningham checks to see if Bobby Cochran can escape from his trap at the magic show, Kristi King. 26 0 December Assignment today: Party: Students in Mrs. Brown's third period English class spend the last day before Christmas vacation by taking it easy.
