School Year Comes to Life as Football Season Swings Into Action The hectic preparations of the preceding month had to be finished by September 8, when, at Sulphur Springs, the first game of the '78 football season got under way. A slightly nervous NL varsity put up a good but not quite good enough effort against the AAA team, and a slightly terrified marching band lived to tell about their first real 8-5 corps-style halftime show. Also under way was the organization of the numerous clubs and the addition of the Spirit Club, sponsored by Annie Perry and Tommy Eads. New sponsors were seen elsewhere as Tommy Eads and Lillian Hickman took over leadership of the Beta Club from Joyce Johnson. The Math Club began work on their first project of the year - a school flag - and Tri-Hi-Y held a homemade ice cream supper before the New Boston football game to the delight of many avid Panther fans. To add to the confusion of everything happening at once, school pictures and senior portraits disrupted classes and schedules for four days. After school practices of almost every imaginable kind could still be seen daily going until all hours as volleyball and football players, cheerleaders, majorettes, flag corps, and band members worked hour after hour through the almost unbearably hot afternoons to ready Senior pictures: Senior Stacy Tucker poses for her cap and ,gown picture. themselves for the next game. l've Got it!
