Summer Brings Rest for Some, Work tor Others Summer vacation meant many different things to differ- ent people. For some it was the traditional swimming, camping, and vacationing with their families, but for many it was every bit as busy-as school time. Many students had summer jobs that took up much of their time, and there was also the group of fifteen-year- olds who had daily drivers' ed instruction for two weeks. Others, such as the majorettes, drum major, varsity cheerleaders, and flag corps had week-long summer camps to attend so that when school and football season started in the fall, they would be fully prepared to carry out their duties. For just about everyone, though, summer was a time to relax a little, reflect on the past school year, and prepare themselves for the coming one. ,.:-tg., ., , . 1 -.- : .': .. i7 : r -1,2-...l . T Summer Ends for Football Team, Band Three Weeks Early as Preparations for September Fill the First Weeks of School g Although school wasn't to start for three weeks yet, band members and football team could be found on the school campus preparing for football season. Majorettes put rou- tines learned at camp to band music, and the new flag corps learned to work with the band. Football players went through the pain of getting muscles back into shape while the cheerleaders worked on the yells that would support them during the actual games. All of these students, though, experienced the pain of working under the hot August sun where it wasn't unusual to see one sway and suddenly find himself on the ground. Most of the student body, though, began school with registration and picking up schedules. l For the most part, the first weeks of the new school year were filled with preparations for the football-volleyball sea- son.
