Stavlo. 4 After three years we’re finally the “senior citizens” of NJH and command total respect from the lower classmen. As ninth graders, we received special privileges other grades were denied such as choosing our elective block classes, becoming student assistants, and attempting a foreign language. We were also eligible for most varsity sports. But being Freshmen was not all fun and games. We diligently, and sometimes not so patiently, struggled through our daily algebra assignments. We participated as senators in the social studies simulation, “Let’s Make a Deal,” where we debated, discussed, and dealt with the current issues around us. We also really did try to understand the ethics of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. In ninth grade we got the first glimpse of who we are and what is to become of us in the next few years. As the class of ’84 moves on to its next stage of life, we’ll all look back at North Junior High and remember it as an experience we will never forget. 9th GRADE Terry Accola Rod Adams Mike Addy Chris Ames Eric Anderson Kim Anderson Nadia Anderson Rick Ansel Crispin Ariss Meredith Arney Karen Aske Beth Bauer Jon Baugh Michelle Beckman Stacey Beens Brenda Bekkerus Janelle Bengtson Bryan Bennett Barb Benson Liz Benson Tracy Bergquist Anne Berry Bobby Bertino Vance Birno Dave Blake Karen Blatt Peter Block Jacob Blumenthal Jenny Blumer John Boemer Sue Boen Gary Book Jeff Borchardt Steve Boyum Heather Bracken Lori Brauer Barb Brinkman Rich Buendorf Sharon Butterfass Jamie Carroll Jenny Carrow Andy Caruson John Charles Ann Charlson Jackie Chevalier Amy C. As eighth graders, we’re now the rookies of NJH. Because we are the “middle children” we feel we know the ropes. After our first timid year as seventh graders, we are now confident that we know every trick in the book as well as a few that have not yet been published. The 1980-81 school year contained an abundance of academic knowledge for us. We admit we did become more “worldly” after studying geography. We found out that speech class was a little different from after-school phone conversations, and we couldn’t help but be attentive in Family Life Education. Our eighth grade experiences have prepared us to accept the challenge of succeeding our ninth grade compatriots as leaders in the North Junior High kingdom. 13 8th GRADE Bridgid Aksteter Brenda Alexander Rona Allen Pam Alstad Jim Amundson Lisa Anderson Tab Armstrong Scott Arndt Darcy Aufderheide Matt Bachman Jack Baer Lisa Baker Bryan Balding Matt Baldwin Pam Barkeim Tom Bartel 1 Diane Bastian Kim Bechthold Paulette Belgarde Michelle Berger John Berner Sam Berry Matt Bisbee Mama Bix Lyle Bladow Debby Blatt MaryBombardier Shannon Bonander Susan Breen Brendan Brooks Mike Brown Sean Brown Tim Brunelle Jennifer Buzzelle Chris Callanan Steve Camp Derek Carlson Greg Carlson Mark Carlson Jim Chapman Suzette Christensen Kim Christenson Cathy Cleveland Mark Coady Sandy Cohen Michelle Colbert Barry Cosgriff Carol Cox Mike Crelly Jim Cullen Sue Curran Pam Dalbec Mark Dargis Brad David Cathy Davis Jenny Deters Alan Dietrich Lara Dowling Jenny Dreier Kim Dunbar Colleen Dunsmore Patty Edgar Deanne Edlefsen 14 8th GRADE Nan Eggan Dan Ekeren Mark Eliot Wendy Erickson Natalie Fayman Matt Fink Richard Folwick Deborah Frane David Frank Ken Friedland Matt Fusske Maureen Gannon Missy Garretson Lee Gemlich Deborah Gendler Paula Gilles Pete Gianvilie Ross Goldberg Greg Goldman Matt Gombrich Tom Gonyea Dan Gravdahl Tom Green Jason Greenberg Catherin Guenther Marco Guerrero David Guldberg Debbie Gysler Kristina Halverson Chris Hanbery Liz Hanbery Mark Hanson Michelle Harris Cindy Hartwig Chris Hedlund Danna Heilicher Ken Heinecke Kari Henderson Tonva Hennessey Jill Herkal Reed Herman Scott Hersk Dan Hetman Jackie Hilbert Peggy Hill Ed Hoban Gina Hoffstrom Gail Hohertz Stacey Holland Kirk Hollinbeck Jeff Holmboe Jason Ige Josh Itman Mike Jacobson Darla Johnson Jody Johnson John Johnson Mike Johnson Sonja Johnson John Kallerup Craig Kanarick Scott Karol Marc Katz 15 Jay Katzenberger Char Kennedy Cathleen Kenny Chris Kinoshita Michelle Klegon Tom Kleven Kim Kloempken Ginger Klugman Dan Knowles Chris Knutson Andy Kuth Kurt Kyllo Susan Laing Bill Laitinen Dean Lambert Sheila Landmark Lisa Langer Curt Larson David Larson Natalie Larson Steve Latzer Teresa Lee Tory Lee Peggy Liebsch Kathy Lind Bob Lindahl Lizabeth Livingston Ranee Lubbers Kris Lund Sonia Lysyj Maureen Madden Jane Marien Bob Marker Diane Marsh Lisa Martin David Martinsen Richard Marx Kim Mayer Sylvia McElroy Tom McCrea KiKi McGlasson Kelly McGuire Keith Mclntire Margo McMahon Tim McNamara Lisa Medchill Jonathan Miller P. Our seven pre-junior high years were spent with one teacher per year teaching us everything from multiplication to watering plants. Suddenly we were given seven or eight teachers, each specialized in their own subject. This was by far the biggest change. We were forced into getting up with the roosters and the “Today Show’’ rather than “Popeye and Porky.” We even managed to get through the day without our daily “rest-time.” Our earliest days of seventh grade can be described as nothing less than mass confusion. A foreign language of terms were hurled around us: S.E.T., R pass, schedule back, T.S.R., S.S.C.! Our lockers wouldn’t open, we could barely find our way around the 100, 200, and 300 wings, and we acknowledged the fact that we would probably need roller skates in order to make it to our classes in a scant three minutes. But as they say, “Life goes on,” and after a short adjustment period we were able to take advantage of North Junior High’s many fine points. Being united from several elementary schools gave us the chance to make many new friends, and we did manage to learn a bit of Greek mythology and animal behavior (not to mention our own). k' I As we approach our eighth grade year, we finally realize that junior high is much more than we had expected! 7TH GRADE 7TH GRADE Adrianne Eliasen Cindy Ellig Lisa Eliingson Kris Engberg Sheri Englund Dean Erdahl Rick Erickson Tracey Fanberg Diane Farwick Michelle Favre Greg Fawcett Amy F'ield Jenny Finkelstein Rob Fishman Peggy Flaig Renee Florence Robert Folwick Tom Forsberg Michelle Fralick Bruce Franck Becca Frank Ben Frisch John Fuller Gordon Gable Bill Gall Andrew Gamson David Gandrud Christine Gaskell Bret Gamlich Chuck Glaser Dan Gleason Lee Goldstein Jenny Gray Wendy Greenberg Lisa Guldberg Kerry Hammill Vaughn Hangartner Dan Hansen Jeff Hansing Chris Hanson Leah Haskvitz Bovakeo Haung Todd Hayes R.J. After 444 days of captivity, the 52 American hostages being held by terrorists in Iran were released. The United States was flooded with yellow ribbons celebrating their “Free at Last” homecoming. On November 6, Ronald Reagan defeated President Carter in a landslide Presidential election. The United States Congress reinstated draft registration, and for the first time in eight years 19 and 20 year old males were required to register to serve their country. The United States was faced with the problem of finding homes for millions of refugees who had fled from Castro’s Cuba. John Lennon, music legend and leader of the Beatles, whose music touched the world, was killed in front of his N.Y. apartment in 1980. However, “The music will live on, and so will John.” (Yoko Ono) It was a year of rising prices and inflation, where the prime interest rate rose above 20%, and the price of a gallon of gas increased to nearly $2. A pair of jeans cost over $20, and a hamburger, fries, and coke meal was priced at approximately $3. 1980-81 was also the year of the preppies. The preppy look was in with Docksiders, mono-grammed sweaters, oxford shirts, wool and pleated skirts, blazers, and turtlenecks. The western look was also popular with cowboy boots, designers’ jeans and western hats. Nike and Tretorn tennis shoes, as well as duckshoes, often rounded out a student’s wardrobe. All in all 1980-81 was an enjoyable year, and one we will all remember. _____________________ Q- c' r -----7 Qamei’ Sknr) ■ 0 34 I guess it wasn’t a Samson- Nice bow, no form, ite. ’’Aachoo!'
