Honor Society Dave MacMillan, president of the Mason City Junior College Honor Society, introduced Dr. Fred Ack- man, superintendent of the Mason City district of the Methodist Churches, at the spring honors assembly. Dr. Ackman spoke on The Free Mind before the assem- bled honor students, their parents, and the student body. First to obtain a charter from the Iowa Junior College Honor So- ciety, the Alpha Chapter of the Mason City Junior College Honor Society stresses scholarship, leadership, and citizenship. To be eligible for Honor Society, a student must attain a 3.25 average in l2 semester hours of study. There are two types of mem- bership-permanent and temporary. Permanent members have earn- ed at least a 3.25 average in 3 semesters of work at Mason City Jun- ior College. They are then enrolled on the scrolls of the Iowa Junior College Honor Society. Temporary members have attained at least a 3.25 average in l2 hours of credit for one semester. While they attend junior college, the temporary members will have all the priv- ileges accorded to Honor Society members. Each spring the Honor Society awards its permanent members with gold pins in recognition of their effort. These students are graduated with highest honors. The temporary members are award- ed a certificate of merit. Honor Society activities include an honors assembly and a spring banquet each year. .N ii. I l 4 ii .i DAVID B.
