Among the numerous changes in the school were the redecor- ating of the cafeteria (no more hamburger), the gold-leaf mural in the hall, and Student Council's picnic area in the front of the school. Hie entertainment world also saw many changes. Female heads turned away from Ten Cruise to take a peek at Dirty Dancing's Patrick Swayze. Hie music world saw the reappearance of some of their all time favorites including George Harrison, Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen. So in order to keep up with the changing world, we decided to give our somewhat hum- drum yearbook a face-lift. In order to really change our book we decided to use the ABC's of .’'MIS as our theme and totally re-arrange our yearbook. I hope you enjoy our new image . Lisa Casey Editor-in-chief GRAPHIC ARTS One of the visiting artists this year was Dayton Spence. Mr. Spence, working together with the art students, made the mural that Is now in the hallway by the cafeteria. The students learned about different forms of art from different eras, and also learned how to lay gold leaf. This is the last year of a three year program cal 1ed Artists in the Schools, taught by artist Ann Mikolowski. In this program gifted art stu- dents have the opportun- ity to work with artists and expand their abilities. The students meet after school on Mondays at Mrs. Mikolowski's studio. There they can experiment and create using anything from charcoal to watercolors, and using everything from wood to pop cans. As a group the students visited the Detroit Institute of the Arts and visited the various art galleries, some of which contained works by Mrs. Mikoloski. GRAPHIC ARTS This year we decided it was 1ong past due to change the paint- ings on the wal1s of the hallways. Pictures o-f Earth Wind and Fire, and Sgt . Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band just don't do it -for us. Neither does comical paint- ings of athletes. Studio and Advanced Art students got the job of fixing the wal1s. They took paintings from famous artists and traced them onto the wal1. Then they painted it and gave us the new mural. Students agree it is a definate im- provement . Next year they will finish the other wall. Good job art students. CtlMLCOAl COLLAGES This year's Fine Art Festival was a great suc- cess. The students in studio art which were Ray Koroleski, Becky Kosinski, and Tracy Hyzer; had their own tables and did demon- strations -for the public. That's us!!1! Four years ago we came here scared to death, and anticipated the worst about everything. But as the days passed our nerves began to relax, and we began to get into the swing of things. Our great Class of 88 is noted for our outstanding class participation, figh- ting for what we want and presenting a great junior - senior prom. (In fact it was one of the best that. NHS had ever seen!) But as we think of these things, we also think of the friendships made, the secrets we have shared. the parties attended, and best of all our first crush. Four years have been filled with these things, and now it's time for the Class of 88 to leave these halls and go on to seek bigger and better things Life as we know it is about to end and only the future is there for us now. Here's wishing every- one in the Cl ass of 88 the best of luck next year and the hope that the memories and friendships of our high school years remain within us forever! 27 ISENIOR MOCK ELECTION NICEST HAIR: Tracv Sera ?' It's hard to believe for all of the seniors that the day we had been waiting for for 13 years had finally hap- pened. Lots of tears and hugs were shared amongst all of us, for it was to probably be the last time all of us would be to- gether. Eric Thuemmel, class valedictorian, and Melissa Perdue, salutatorlan, gave their speeches to the hundreds of family members and friends who attended the commencement exercises. Mr. William Hogan, principal, then proceeded to distribute awards and announce honors and scholar- ships. Mr. David Thuemmel, president of the Board of Education, distributed the di piomas . All of the seniors would like to wish their fellow classmates lots of luck and that they may lead exciting and eventful lives. And with the closing of the 1988-89 school year also comes the close of THE ABC's of N.H.H.S. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the creative people who gave us all the great pictures. I would also like to thank the entire yearbook staff who did a terrific job of putting this yearbook together and worked hard to meet their deadlines, even if I didn't. You made this yearbook unique. And lastly, I would like to thank Ms. Stanek without whose support and encouragement, we could've never developed this yearbook into what it is now. GOOD LUCK CLASS OF '89 Lisa Casey Editor-in-chief
