SECOND ROW: Phyllis I-lartung, Joyce Johnson BASKETBALL- GIRLS The Girls' Basketball Squad, under the supervision of Miss lzarek, opened the Basketball season in the latter part of December. During the first week of practice the gymnasium bustled with activity as sixty girls tried out for the Var- sity and junior Varsity teams. At the end of the first week twelve girls were selected as Var- sity material and twelve as junior Varsity. These junior -Varsity members also hold the honor of being members of one of the first Junior Varsity teams to compete in interscholastic basketball in our district. Uniforms, purchased by the Athletic Asso- ciation were dark green, and the girls made a nice appearance in them. The team chose joan Mulligan to be cap- tain of the Varsity squad and Mary Gares was elected junior Varsity captain. The teams got off to a Hying start and man- aged to keep this up throughout the season. This was due to the spirit and ambition the girls showed in their games. Norell Butler. The girls' practices were held at Regional ir , High School, but their games were played at , ,, Clinton Community Field. For their games, the if LQ girls wore their green gymsuits. The starting ' 5 S team was chosen the night before the first game ' ff' and varied from game to game according to each S' '24 , 1 player's ability during games and practices.
