l987 NORTHERN LIGHTS Dedication M dedication great a pla Robert Bou To the Class of 87: It has been with a sense of respect and admiration that we have observed your growth individually and as a class. Your willingness to attempt difficult tasks and work towards mutually acceptable goals has set a standard by which future classes will be measured. You have made North a better place and we are confident North has prepared you for the challenges of the future. You will look back at your high school years as the most enjoyable years of your life and it has been an honor to share them with you. r. Robert Boule e, the Class of I987 happily dedicate our yearbook to a man who has encouraged, enlightened, and helped us through the thick and the thin. Without his and support, North High School would HOI be as ce to be as it is today! We wish to thank you, Mr. le! 1 f - ,,,,,Q.1:3i9wS' f, 1: Ilgsi s.: 1312 -si 2 ggi? 4 1 4. Through the early part of the season the squad showed progress with four wins in the first ten games. From the last week of August until the end of October, the North High School Field Hockey Team members gave their heart and soul to playing the game. Many great and challenging ex- periences were had as the team worked under the leadership of its new coach - Cheryl St. Onge. It would be impossible to forget practicing on the front lawn, run- ning around the soccer field. looking for lost practice balls. the bus rides, water at half time, and most of all the games at Foley Stadium. With senior Leda Riopel as the captain, no one ever lost his de- termination and spirit. They may not have been victorious, but they always had great fun. James Connolly, and Francis Por- caro the l986-l987 Varsity Foot- ball Team made up of many first year players entered the season with great expectations, but lit- tle experience. ln an extremely competitive division, many play- ers had to go on both offense and defense. Halfback tri-captains Joe Gen- ese and Gary D'Ambrosio were the backbone of the offense and defense, with the third captain, Joe Ruth, being the heart of the offensive line. The running of Chris Monopoli, combined with the blocking of our offensive line, which was headed by Scott Mar- coux, left many defenses con- fused about our single wing. In victories over Worcester Vocational and Millbury High, and near upsets over Doherty, David Prouty and Assabet Valley the defense shined. Dan Serafin and Andrew Stolberg contained the ends. Keith Lucas clogged up the middle, leaving the second- ary - Iinebackers Gary D'Ambro- sio, Seth Rosenfield, Joe Genese and defensive backs John Hea- Iey, Chris Monopoli and Mike Ba- chelder to level opponents. Though fate and inexperience plagued them through the sea- son, the team always played with heart. A team should not be re- membered only by its record, but also by the people who played the game. 96 .iw . They really showed their spirit and de- termination this season. With their experienced veterans an- and their eager and euthusiastic newcomers they put together a season to be proud of. They nev- er lost their morale or their team spirit. Even when they felt the agony of defeat they held to- gether and bounced back for the next race. They had some really good times and I know they all have great memories to share. I don't think anyone will ever forget the race against Holy Name when our leading runners, Jeff Auger, Paul Dumas and Frank Mathews went the wrong way and got lost. For- tunately, all of Holy Name's lead- ing runners went the wrong way too, leaving North's own Richard Dowd with first place which lead North on to a sweet victory. This year has truly been the best thanks to all of the team mem- bers and especially their coach Mr. Bjorklund. It was an exciting experience for all of us - our high school years had begun. The next four years would be the most memorable of our lives In the beginning ln our freshman year we didnt waste any time in becoming a major influence on our school. We attended sporting events, dances, and participated in many activities. Our enthusiasm helped in winning the Spirit Trohpy. and every Friday morning we had the privilege of reading the Polar Bare Facts. By the time our freshman year had come to an end, we felt as if we had been at North forever On wa rd ln our sophomore year we became organized as a class, and we produced the Sophomore Steering Committee. We sold pins and carnations, and held a raffle to raise money for our senior year.
