'RAW MBV' 'r Cobwrua fob .. As that was the question centuries ago, it is the question again today-and more important . . . Tomorrow! In the past year each Senior has struggled to try to wisely make perhaps the most vital deci- sion of his life - whether to try to make his way in the world directly upon gradua- tion, or to continue with his education at some institution of higher learning. The Sophomores and Juniors have shared decisions, also . . . Questions loom up time after time as we each face our Moments of Decision. The past year is representative of these decisions -large and small, well-thought-out or unwise- each one important to our school life and helpful in shaping our individual lives and characters. Remember how difficult it was to de- cide on your choice for Queen of that big dance? Each sports fan fought just as feverishly, in his own way, as did the ath- lete when he faced the moment when he had to decide whether to try for that basket . . . whether to run for that touch- down or make a pass . . . Then there was the routine decisions - also important - which classes to take? - which clubs to join? We have made mistakes, of course, but may these be considered by the new stu- dents as they face comparable Moments of Decision .' There will be decisions to be made in the future, too. No matter what these may be, those of the past are the foundation on which they will be made. On the following pages we relive some of the decisions of our past - but who may say what the future holds in relation- ship to our . . . Moments of Decision!! Che Spirit af N U WIP H is intangible yet ever-present. It is evident at football games and in the crowded halls. It shines in the hearts of everyone who has ever had contact with North High School, its faculty, and stu- dents. There exists no greater symbol of this spirit than in the personage to which the 1957 Viking Annual is dedi- cated . . . Miss Edith Brittain. She has given her friendship, loyalty, and the greater part of her life in service to North. It is a privilege to consider her as a Viking. With truly humble and sincere ap- preciation we of North High School dedicate the 1957 Viking Annual to you . . . Have you ever stopped and thought about the amount of time, figuring, and careful considera- tion the teachers give in deciding what grade you will receive, or the amount of time they spend in sponsoring our club activities? Everything they do and say affects our lives in some way, no matter how large or small. At the time, we may not fully appreciate the corrections or advice a teacher may give to us, but in later years their advice might prove to he of great assistance in determining the track our lives may follow. We are in- debted to the teachers in every way for everything they do for us . . . ...human FUR THESE ARE 'W 'L iw: ynelu... Both the teacher and student are faced with many deci- sions. Before the test, the teacher must decide how much the test should cover, should it be true or false, fill in or mul- tiple choice? Also, at home, the student faces the decision of how to study. In the silence of the classroom, the student alone faces many decisions. Shall I put yes or shall I put no? Does it sound true? . . . No, false! . . . What does the teacher mean by this? There are three answers and all are true. Shall I put 'A'? It sounds true, but so does 'BY What will I do? The decision is mine . . . Our season record in the city was 6-2 and an over all record of 'l7-4. Dave Eastis, star center, received many individual honors which he well deserved. It was a fine season for the Viks, one that can be remembered for a good many years to come. During the 1957 wrestling season the Vikings worked their way through the season with three wins and one loss. They entered the city wrestling tournament with high hopes. The Vikings ended the tournament with four all-city wrestling cham- pions. Burton Smith took the ll2 pound division with Gary Hartley gaining a decision over his man in the 120 pound class. Jim Harden, wrestling at 133 pounds, and Roy Kahler, wrestling at 154 pounds, also gained decisions over their men. The North Vikings entered eight men in the state tournament. Bob Olson, wrestling at 95 pounds, went to the quarter- finals and then was defeated. The other wrestlers were defeated earlier in the tournament. Mickey Gonzales, a reserve, earned his varsity letter by placing in city competition. Coach Klune offers condolence. , -,- wg- --. Q , K J 1 A . Strong as we were though, we could not take the city or state championship. The mermen finished second, a few points behind East, in the city, and second behind a very powerful Cheyenne team in the state. Outstanding individual swimmers were Chuck Bran- denburg and Bill Miller. Chuck holds the city and state record in the breast-stroke event and Bill holds the city record in the 200 yard free-style event. These decisions ranged from the deep frustration of selecting the following semester's courses to the minor decision of choosing the ap- propriate clothing for the day.
