Girls Learn Sewing, Cooking Girls in cooking classes not only learned to prepare delicious meals, but they also learned the importance of a balanced diet. Beginning seamstresses made two-piece outfits and simple dresses, while the more advanced students work- ed on suits and winter coats. Both boys and girls studied in home and family living the ingredients that make a happy home and a successful marriage. In child care, students learned the basic rules of effective child training and care. Auto mechanics, auto information, drivers education, electricity, general metals, mechanical drawing, printing, girls' home mechanics, and woodwork made up the curriculum. - A new Multilith offset printing press was purchased. When fed automatically, it produced 4,500 to 7,500 copies each hour. The press was used to print many leaflets, bul- letins, programs and the quotation calendars. Additional equipment for the electricity classes was the Philco demonstration unit. Its outlets for connections pro- duced basic electronic circuits and systems which proved beneficial to the students enrolled in the course. 5 Each class of the industrial arts departmenflfused the new display case in the hall by the generafnmetals class- room. Langua e Arts Courses Grow Because this is the first year that seniors were required to take English, the English teach- ers were really busy. Sophomores read and studied The Yearling, juniors struggled with research Themes and A Tale of Two Cities, and seniors studied English composition, college reading, and English and world literature. Beginning iournalists wrote and wrote and wrote, advanced journalists rushed to meet news- paper deadlines, and the TOWER Staff organized the yearbook. Kent Frizzell, attorney and member of the board of education, discussed newspaper lihel and the working of the board of education with journalism students.
