As fresh- men we gazed longingly into the Senior High School. During our years at North we are constantly finding windows in our school life. As we approach every class we look through a window in the door. Now, as seniors, we eagerly look out the windows for new oppor- tunities whether it he a job or the new expe- rience of college. Some of us will look for- ward to nurse's training or other special schools. Using this device we would like to show you our activities as well as our achievements. l l 4 l v ee -- f --1 Table of Contents T4 ee ef 1 , el 7 1 4 WV. r---4 Admin t t ....,...,. page 5 ors , .. ...... .,.,,.. ,. p age 13 Underclassmen .A ,., ..v...... p age 25 ts Act1v1t1 ........... page 37 I e1 L ee , In Memoriam Mrs. Catherine Diehl It is always difficult to understand the influence a teacher has upon her students. It is an intangible which is hard to describe. In speaking of beauty the poet Keats once said, A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increasesg it will never Pass into nothingnessf' This brief quotation perhaps describes the relationship which existed between Mrs. Diehl and her students. During the four years she was at North High School she radiated cheerfulness and kindliness. Words are inadequate to describe our feelings. Her influence will increase and will never pass away. l 1 , In .1 V V 71 .li -1.-...SL ful -L.-M -n- -it ...Q ll 4 X l. mu N1 l NX JE? ' -5 ., V- M , Q ill guns-wig-f C. We may think first of their function in bringing the glorious sunlight into a room, casting its golden beams into every corner. Or we may reflect upon the window as it enables us to look out of our homes into the beauty of Godis great outdoors, with its myriad colors, its changing season, its variety of life. Again, we think of the window at night, with its light shining forth as a beacon to one lost in the darkness. But at this graduation season, I would think of the educational windows which have been provided for you by North High School, and of the ways in which you may put them to use .for the good of mankind. These windows have brought knowledge, skill and under- standing to you from the great reservoirs of the past. They have en- abled you to know and appreciate the wonders of the universe-of science, geography, history. They have permitted you to communicate with your fellow man in ways scarcely dreamed of a few generations ago. But most of all, they should aid you in spreading the light of friendship and tolerance, in helping to provide that glowing star of peace and good will which will guide mankind through the night of conflict and strife into the bright sunlight of understanding and cooperation. This is the window which will bring us to a better to- morrow l The educated person is one who refuses to view life only from his own windows. This principle alone justifies a serious study of his- tory, requires the reading of good literature, and validates excursions into the fields of the fine arts and the sciences. The simple realization that there are other views is the beginning of wisdom. Understanding what these are is an important step. The final test is understanding why different views are held. To this end I hope a part of your education has been directed. Keeping our line of vision unclouded is a life-time obligation: A prejudice, if held close enough to the mind's eye, can hide the greatest ideal in the universe, namely, the dignity and worth of each person as an individual. Especially keep clear the window which will reveal to you the kind of person you can become. WALTER C. GARLAND Assistant Superintendent Graduation from high school is the fulfillment of a dream to most of our students as well as to their parents. It is a moment of great joy and we congratulate you on a job Well done. We sincerely hope that you have taken full advantage of the edu- cational opportunities at North High School and are adequately prepared for a full life of service to society. The class of 1962 will long live in our memories as one that has made an outstanding contribution to North High School and Will be an inspiration to future classes. As we gaze through the windows of time, We hope that you are finding happiness and are successfully meeting each new challenge and that you are leaving a mark on society with your achievements. JOSEPH ZEMBA MICHAEL MITCHELL To the class of 1962, now you approach the successful achievement of another important stage in your career. I am not sure that those of you who are leaving North High will remember it as a place where you began to do and think for yourself, where you learned to cooperate and work with other people. May these habits of independent thinking and cooperative endeavor serve you well in all your future works. As you say farewell to North High School, it is my hope that you will not forget us but will return many times. Our best Wishes for your happiness and success go with you. NORMAN ALEXANDER WILLIAM W.
