V E A if A 'RF QQ THE SENIOR CLASS NORTH 1-new SOHOOL FOR NOW E FOREVER YOUNOSTOWN OHIO. Foreword Our yearbook records the story of the accomplishments of the first class to complete four years in the new North High School. It represents our effort to tell the story of a class and of a fine school. It is a record of service by individual members of the class in athletic events, in the band, in dramatics, in vocal music groups, and in other organizations. It is the story of a class which brought the traditions of an old school to a new and beautiful building. It gives a pictorial view of students at Work in the attractive classrooms and library and depicts the highlights of the first four memorable years. T he 1960 Silhouette will remain as a symbol of these years which we have spent together at our Alma Mater. This book will allow us to remember the events of our school days for now and forever. 6:1 Q , 9 IC':x -.L ,La o 'Ye Q0 er f-f e r our r . 4 If r 4 'C . . V . J . I QJAQY-X ge. . he fm. A9191 2. We, the Class of 1960 of North High School, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Carl V. Thompson, our de- voted principal. While spending the past forty years in the all-important profession of education, he has successfully helped many students to realize and to understand the ideals awaiting them in all walks of life. Through his guidance he has encouraged us to proceed ever so far into the unconquered fields of this new and confusing age. We are greatly indebted and more than honored to have known you, Mr. Carl V. Thompson. May you he richly rewarded for all you have done for the welfare of mankind, and may Cod bless you always. 4 f , , , r f' I - 1 i, ,I J IIDIVIINISIRIIIIOII Assistant Superintendent Superintendent Graduation from high school is the fondest hope of most boys and girls as well as of parents. To grad- uate from North High School is, indeed, an honor and the fulfillment of a roseate dream. This is one of the great moments of your life. Make the most of it. Young people are idealists. Life's plans move out on a rising curve. You are reaching for the highest part of life, the zenith. It is as though you were moving upward on the arc of the rainbow. It is pleasant to think of the beautiful colors of the rainbow as a guiding path. It is the wish of all of us for you that the shim- mering paths which beckon today may lead you ever upward and outward. May they head you into useful, healthy and happy lives . . . May all your pathways lead along the rainbow now and forever. DR. J. FRED ESSIG It 15 a genuine privilege to extend hearty congratula- tions to the Class of 1960! We trust that your High School has succeeded in guiding you to a preparation for the challenges and opportunities of an atomic age, and we are certain that North will be richer for the heritage you will leave behind. As you go forth to learn, to serve, to lead, bear always in mind that integrity is the basis for all worth-while achievement, and the essence of true character. Only as your intelligence, your energy, your vision, are fortified with integrity can you render to society the service which is at once your privilege and your duty. We are grateful for the memories you have given us, and we look forward with anticipation to your future successes. DR. J. HARRY WANNAMAKER Principal Through the years it has become more and more evident to me that happiness and real success depend more upon our philosophy of life than upon any ma- terial wealth, however great, we may be able to accumulate. lf we can be hopeful, cheerful, and appreciative of those about usg if we can see good, as well as the had, in our fellow man, if we can forgive, forget, and arise from a shambles of failure or disappoint- ment, to face the future with a bold heartg if we can do such things as these we are following the rainbow and at the end of the trail we will find the happiness of contentment and the peace of soul which accompan- ies a life of service to our fellow man. ' To the Seniors of 1960, and to all of those with whom I have worked, pupils, teachers, and parents, over the past forty years: may all of you find the end of the rainbow and the fabulous wealth that is conjectured to be located there. C. V. THOMPSON Assistant Principal The rainbow from earliest times has been a phe- nomenon of nature which has stimulated the imagina- tion of man. It has been a symbol of promise and hope which has caused many of us to think longingly of the 'cpot of goldl' at its end. The rainbow might also be thought of as an arch across the heavens opening wider horizons for each of us to explore. It is the concept of the rainbow as an arch which the theme of the 1960 yearbook, Along the rainbow now and forever, has brought to my mind., It is an arch' of experience which has brought to each of us memories of happinessg it is also an arch which beckons us to new endeavors and adventures. For as Tennyson writes: All experience is an-arch where through Gleams the unlravelecl world. As you journey into the future may you find the rainbow is an arch to happiness and success.
