Drivers Education Places Emphasis On Safety and Responsibility IRVIN WILDMAN GARY TAYLOR Parsons, B.S. Iowa State Colorado A. M. Drake Learning the basic principals on safety and driving responsibility are of prime importance in Driver Education training. The course consists of classroom study, simulator training, and actual driving. Students are graded in all three areas and given an average for their semester grade. In accordance to Iowa Law, students under 18 years of age are required to take this semester course to receive their license to drive. ROBERT COLLINS JAY WAND Marching in the band at football games and parades, playing and singing at the spring festival, and performing at special assemblies are just a few of the many activities of students enrolled in music courses. Instrumental music, conducted by Mr. Killinger, and vocal music along with humanities, taught by Miss Emmons, help specially talented students to further develop their musical abilities. Science Builds For The Future Dorothy Shaeffer diligently carries out a chemistry experiment. North students are lucky to have such a complete science department to prepare them for college and future careers. 1 hey have the opportunity to take biology, chemistry, and physics to help them in some of the basic prin- ciples in the science fields. In these courses students perform experi- ments to extend and test their knowledge. The class study and laboratory experiments are combined to make a firm foundation of scientific knowledge. In this three semester course, students are given practice at writing news and feature stories, editorials, captions, and yearbook copy. The first semester is used in teaching the students writing, ad selling, and the basis of journalism as a whole. Home management includes planning and cooking meals, taking care of small children, sewing, and studying family relations. The students gain better insight into the problems of family living. DAVID HARDIE Iowa State, B.S. ELIZABETH COOK Simpson College, B.A. Iowa State Univ., M.S. Univ. of Minn. Basic Fundamentals and Experience are Gained Through Industrial Arts The industrial arts department consists of mechanical drawing, woodshop, auto mechanics, and metal shop. Each course is designed to teach the necessary fundamentals and furnish valuable experiences for each student.
