Columbia, M.A. JAMES WICKHAM Drake, B.A. Graduate Study: Drake, I.S.U. Writing compositions, learning grammar, and studying literature make up the basis for which English is taught. Sophomore speech helps develop more poise and confidence in addressing an audience. One speech class produced a television show. Big ' E ' included about 200 juniors taught by two teachers. Their reading focuses on American literature which contains short stories by Edgar Allen Poe and poems by Emily Dickinson. The seniors who took English were being pre- pared for college next fall. The office and counseling staffs are constantly kept busy during the day performing many duties for N.H.S. Some of the duties fulfilled by the office workers are keeping grade records, mimeographing as- signments for the faculty, and taking care of daily attendance lists. The counselors help students plan their schedules, discuss plans for after graduation, and keep students records. Learning the history of the world and the United States gives sophomores and juniors a look at past and present problems. Seniors study the basics of economics and the structure of our government, developing a better understanding for future years. Black history depicts the background, discrimination, and racial problems that face blacks today.
