speech and Drama Display Self Expression Fifth hour drama class rehearses for one act plays. Imagination and creativity are developed in speech and drama classes under the direction of John Thompson. Among the assignments that were given were making up skits and pantomimes, pre- senting one-act plays, and giving speeches. Making file cards and preparing case outlines are only a few of the numerous activities that the debate class participate in. The debators then take on competition in tournaments. This year the debate class centered their study on criminal investigation. Oracle and Polar Bear Teach Students Responsibilities The Polar Bear and the Oracle are the two main responsibilities of the journalism class under the direction of Walter Barnett. Both the yearbook and paper include planning pages, writing con- cisely, meeting deadlines, selling advertising, and identifying and cropping pictures. The first semester of study is learning the basic principles of writing good news and feature stories. The second semester students assume the responsibility of the Oracle and third semester students compose the Polar Bear Staff.

DECA Blends Working Experience With Class Learning RICHARD BERRY Drake, B.S. Distributive Education students are trained and have on the job experience for careers in wholesaling, retailing, and service establishments. These students receive this training and instruction in the classroom, along with their regular studies, in the morn- ing and work at respective places of business during the afternoon. Each of the students in the program are required to have taken a course in salesmanship. They are then able to put their knowledge to practice by working in various business establish- ments. Home Management Prepares Students For Marriage Preparing meals, creating ward- robes, caring for children and in- vestigating the area of family rela- tions are activities offered in the home economics courses at North this year. North has an excellent home- making center offering kitchens, furnished living room, and sewing machines to help further the study of nutrition, food preparation, child care, home management, home fur- nishing, and family relations.
