Library, Nurse, Study Hall Are All a Part of North Research papers, book reports, and debates are just a few of the assignments that caused North students to use the 10,180 books in the library. Being an important part in the learning process, the library contains books on a wide variety of subjects that range from Cricket ' s Song to The War for the Union. By diligently working in the reading lab during their study hall, many students have improved their reading speed and comprehension. Nobody is in perfect health all of the time, so Mrs. Fjelde is prepared to take care of students on the days that they have an earache, sore throat, fever, queasy stomach, or any other illness it is possible to get. Keeping health records on the stu- dents and writing gym excuses are also a part of her job. The mumble of students talking, the grind of the pencil sharpener, the scuffling of students walking around the room, and the yelling at the students to keep quiet are just a few of the sounds that are familiar to a student in study hall. Though many found it a time to talk or get some sleep, others used it to get their homework done so that they made better grades. By doing this, they learned to use their time as a youth beneficially. HELEN MORISON Iowa State Teachers College Univ. of Denver, B.S. Drake Univ., M.S. school life a time to laugh . . . to fiave a friend and discover the art of being a friend to enjoy the activities and spirit of youth. For the students and faculty members, North High School is more than just an institution of learning; it is an integral part of their lives. Shared experiences, laugh- ter, excitement and friendships will always rank among fond memories. The 1967 State Basketball Tournament, and all the excitement, spirit and pep that accompanied it, the pink and green homecoming float which took hours to com- plete and carried a lovely queen, Virginia Palcic, the many after game mixers and hootenanys, assemblies, a successful pancake day, Circus Town, the sixth avenue bridge opening, and the Rev. Bob Richards words, High- er, Swifter, Stronger, are all a part of North High and a part of this time of youth. —29—
