Preparing absence lists, keeping records of students, mimeographing materials, doing secre- tarial work, and keeping accounts for the school and clubs are just a few of the jobs that keep them busy. Often unaware, students receive jobs and college acceptances because of the hard work the office staff has done to keep accurate records. The daily announcements are given over the P.A. Custodians, Matrons And Cafe Workers Add To The Well-Being of North Keeping a teen-ager on a well balanced diet is often difficult, but the cafeteria workers do their part by preparing balanced meals for the students. Beefburgers, pizza, and homemade cookies are among the favorites of many students. The custodial helpers and matrons can always be found busy at work doing such things as cleaning the lobby, sweeping the basketball floor, washing classroom windows, preparing the auditorium for assemblies, or shoveling the sidewalks. They all help make North a wonderful place for a learning experience. Marcia Collins and Penny Harris are served lunch in the cafeteria. Library, Nurse, Study Hall Are All a Part of North Research papers, book reports, and debates are just a few of the assignments that caused North students to use the 10,180 books in the library. Being an important part in the learning process, the library contains books on a wide variety of subjects that range from Cricket ' s Song to The War for the Union. By diligently working in the reading lab during their study hall, many students have improved their reading speed and comprehension. Nobody is in perfect health all of the time, so Mrs. Fjelde is prepared to take care of students on the days that they have an earache, sore throat, fever, queasy stomach, or any other illness it is possible to get. Keeping health records on the stu- dents and writing gym excuses are also a part of her job. The mumble of students talking, the grind of the pencil sharpener, the scuffling of students walking around the room, and the yelling at the students to keep quiet are just a few of the sounds that are familiar to a student in study hall. Though many found it a time to talk or get some sleep, others used it to get their homework done so that they made better grades. By doing this, they learned to use their time as a youth beneficially. HELEN MORISON Iowa State Teachers College Univ. of Denver, B.S. Drake Univ., M.S.
