Custodians, Matrons And Cafe Workers Add To The Well-Being of North Keeping a teen-ager on a well balanced diet is often difficult, but the cafeteria workers do their part by preparing balanced meals for the students. Beefburgers, pizza, and homemade cookies are among the favorites of many students. The custodial helpers and matrons can always be found busy at work doing such things as cleaning the lobby, sweeping the basketball floor, washing classroom windows, preparing the auditorium for assemblies, or shoveling the sidewalks. They all help make North a wonderful place for a learning experience. Marcia Collins and Penny Harris are served lunch in the cafeteria. Industrial Arts Trains For Jobs As the youth of North leave high school, many take their place in the working world while others further their education by attending college. The industrial arts courses prepare the stu- dent for both a job and for advanced study. Training is given in auto mechan- ics, mechanical drawing, and wood and metal work. Some of the projects which are undertaken by the students are build- ing a cabinet, making blue prints, and tearing motors apart. One of the model cors in the simulator. Simulator Helps Prepare Competent Drivers During the first semes- ter North driver education students were fortunate in having the use of the simu- lator. In it each student had his own model car to drive. While watching a movie of a moving car, the student would react in his model to turns and hazards like the driver in the movie. Now, as more and more youth are driving and getting their own cars, these experiences are very beneficial in making better drivers. The course came to a climax with the final test and the issuing of temporary licenses. —24—

Preparing absence lists, keeping records of students, mimeographing materials, doing secre- tarial work, and keeping accounts for the school and clubs are just a few of the jobs that keep them busy. Often unaware, students receive jobs and college acceptances because of the hard work the office staff has done to keep accurate records. The daily announcements are given over the P.A.
