Drake, Rutgers Math and Science Become More Important Realizing that most students will not become mathematicians, the math teachers know that the skills taught in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, college math, and probability will serve a practical purpose in the everyday life of the youth. The knowledge is needed for such common happenings as figuring income tax, shopping for groceries, changing a recipe, or keeping a bowling score. By improving his skills through further education, a student can get a job in such areas as chemistry, economics, business management, or computer work.
