ERMA WILSON Hvmemalzing f'repareA or Yuture The homemaking courses offered at North prepare students for the responsibility of maintaining their own home in the future. Courses in nutrition, food preparation, sewing, child care, home management, and home furnishings are available. Senior girls and boys may take a family relations class. Excellent facilities including a kitchen, furnished living room, and sewing room are available for classroom use. ln addition to regular class work, home projects are carried on in order to gain further experiences in homemaking. Pat Watkins slaves over the Oracle. l Celia Sassatelli and Trudy Schmitz model coats they made as home projects in Family Relations. Communication Sleillni learned Students taking journalism under the direction of Walter Barnett learn the correct procedures for newspaper writing, selling advertising, and yearbook production. CAROLYN PETERS Vocol Music Mr. Killinger tries to show the bond o new routine for Veishci. llicwic bepartment World many Noam Numerous hours of work and planning programs by Mrs. Carolyn Peters, vocal music instructor, and Karl Killinger, instrumental music director, have given North a fine music department. Mrs. Peters is in charge ot the boys' and girls' glee clubs and the A Capella Choir. The marching and concert bands, orchestra, and the dance bands are under the direction of Mr. Killinger. Both teachers worked together to produce an impressive Spring Music Festival. 7eclunique, Creativity Key to Mft Gerald Stinn, crafts instructor, teaches students how to use technique and creativity in constructing an art project. Students have a wide variety of projects to make in the crafts department including jewelry, weaving, pottery, stitchery and others. Display windows near the art rooms frequently show the crafts made by students. The Art Department under the direction of Neil Bear stresses the basic art elements of color, line, texture, and form in the areas of painting and drawing. Many Gold Key and honorable mention awards were given this year to deserving students for their fine work in the Art Department. This year the Language Lab was in full use. fivrtli a1nA language Zabratory This was an important year for the language department because of the installation of the new language laboratory. The lab is equipped with 36 listening booths, l8 of which have tape recorders. Students can speak with the teacher simply by pressing a button. French, Latin, and Spanish classes all take advantage ot this new facility. By using the language lab, it is easier tor students to learn the art of word pronunciation. Also, through language classes students become more familiar with other peoples ot the world and their customs.
