This year the Mighty Viking squad posted wins over Tallmadge, Cloverleaf, Kenmore, Buchtel and Hower, while dropping very close decisions with East, Garfield, Cuyahoga Falls and Central. There are many hopes for next years gridiron squad with many lettermen returning to action. Mr. Ed Kirkpatrick, head coach, and Mr. Bob Wallace, Bob Hatherill, joe Zampino, Bart Pignatelli, and Gabe De Santis, associate coaches, have done a fine job to successfully earn us four out of five victories. The team started off by running over six oppo- nents before dropping very close meets to East and Buchtel. Next year's team is hoping to better its stand- ings in the City, District, and Worthington Invitational meets because all members will be returning except senior letterman Jerry Myers. North placed third in the City and fourth in both District and Worthington meets. Much of the success of this yea.r's team was due to the sterling performance of John Tillman. This junior turned in quite a performance in his first year on the team. He broke the City record by several seconds and posted a record time of 9: 15 at the Worthington Invitational meet. He led all harriers home across the finish line in the District meet thus qualifying to run in the state meet where he placed among the top finishers. 71 VARSITY TEAM With All-City stars Ron Collins, Harvey Lucas, and Don White leading this year's squad, the North High Viking Basketball Team posted a 9-8 record against very tough competition. North finished second in the city by dropping a heartbreaking game, 49-48 Covertimej, to South High for the Championship. The Vikings' most cherished victory was that one over South during the regular season when they blasted the highly state ranked Cavaliers on their own court by a score of 72 -65, Ron Collins was selected to the first team for All-City recognition while Harvey Lucas was rewarded with a second team berth and Don White grabbed a third team position. ff Vx ,Q ia, QglT f ' . -. f sl, A Hughes' ,f , ' lff?i 3 'T' if 'ig Luc as 73 Petrarca Swim Team The new swim coach, Mr. Baker, took our four year old swim team to the Akron Uni- versity swimming pool for practices and swim meets with other schools.
