Wendy Williams, Colleen Falley, Assistant Coach Kim Lund and Karen Schwartzbauer Mymique Baxter kicks an air ball. Jessica Ferrell controlling the ball. The girls' soccer team, during it’s second season as a varsity sport, was much more competitive than their 1 win. 11 losses, and 2 ties record would indicate. Many of the games were decided by only one goal. Senior Suk Yun was named most valuable player on the team and was named to the All — City team. Senior Mymique Baxter was high — scorer, and Senior goalie Regenea Green made many saves for the team. Two players. Chong Yun and Jennifer Maroney, received the Coaches Award given for outstanding hustle and positive attitudes. Coach Lori Tauring was really pleased with the improvement over last season and feels that the young program is gaining momentum. 24

Back Row: Sharon Davis, Gloria Holcomb, Casonya Fulford. Aquilla Roberts The 1987 Vollyball team made it to the Conference Championship for the first time ever in the history of North High School. Beating Bloomington Jefferson in the tournament in Duluth highlighted this years season. It was the dedication of the team as a whole that made this team special. Senior Aquilla Roberts and Juniors Gloria Halcolmb and Julie Swanson, made all — conference. Senior Consonya Fulford and Junior Chris Goodwin received honorable mentions for the all — conference team. Manager Karl Brophy The 1987 boys soccer team was the best that North has ever experienced, in peformance, team record, and recognition of outstanding players. They finished 5 — 7 — 1, fourth in conference, and advanced to the second round of regionals. Head Coach Greg McMoore refered to the ethnic diversity of the team as one of the reasons for the success and emotional closeness of this team. The team captians. seniors Allan Grigsby. Harry Grigsby, and Damien Petrou. were named to the all — city team. Petrou was also high scorer and made honorable mention on the all — state team. Sophomore goalies Corey Johnson and Enousay Thao, contributed a great deal to the team and will provide a strong base for the next two years. Assistant Coach Lee Bellfield and Manager Carl Brophy. also added to the team success.
