VOLUME 69 a tour of the face (from a litany of faces) here Is my face seated behind the desk of remembering here Is my face blinking like an eye In a room full of suns here Is my face It leaps like fire from footsteps left In the halls here Is my face my warm sweater on a cold day face (notice the cable-knit smile) here Is my face near the bridge of the nose an idea is being born here is my face the wide open eyes are letting out surprise here is my face the leathery cushion of an old chair this is my comfortable face here is my face trapeezed in a question mark my classroom face and here is my face cracked like old wood from laughter here is my face down in the corner near the chin the partially formed face here is my face the wide open mouth is home for the tiny bird of friendship here is my face standing in a sea of faces the song of this sea is the language of dreams here is my face and just in back of this face the new face i will wear tomorrow here is my face a river of hair a brook a lake to hide under here is my face hard In the hard light of the gym here is my face disguised as a set leaning against the stage wall here is my face the ears keeping their secret here is my face — George Roberts
