Leadership and Service are the four cardinal qualities found in each member of the National Honor Society. A student may be inducted into the society in either his junior or senior year. Among other activities, tho society servicod our pop machines in hopes to raise enough money to bring a foreign student to North next year. A social at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour was held in December. A faculty tea and birthday party commemorating the society's thirty-first birthday was held on January 6. Also a final banquet was held in the spring when new members were inducted. Officers were: Michael Smith, President; Larry Stre-leck. Y-Teens it a club which it o branch of fhe YWCA, an organization whera girlt develop better relationships with each other. Taking a different approach this year, Y-Teent became more involved with all-school activities than ever before. They sponsored such things as roller skating parties, dancet. and a ski-trip held for ell of the students at North. They also held an Apple-Polishing Tea for teachers, and offered courses in self-defense, modeling, and make-up. The three chapters wore active within themselves, learning to get along with each other, making new friends, end developing service projects end money reising progrem . National Forensic League National Forensic League, moro commonly known as the N.F.L., con boast as being tho only nationally recognized scholastic organization. Thoy are the only high school group recognized by the University Board of Regonts for Advanced Work in Spooch. North is one of tho four high schools in the Minneapolis area to have an N.F.L., thoy have had their charter since 1950. Admittance to the N.F.L. is tasod on points which are earned through public spooking and competition. N.F.L. mombers participated in tho Student Congress and speech contests in April.
