AFRO-AMERICAN STUDENT SOCIETY SEATED: Mary May President; Ruth Spellmon, Vice-Presi-dent. STANDING: Mary Boyle. Secretary; Denise Stanford, Treasurer. Advitor Mr. Trenholm Hope end President Mary May discussing future plans. Pictured above is a portion of the A.A.S.S. Afro-American Student Society was a new club this year. The dub advisor was Mr. Trenholm Hopo. Afro-Amorican Student Society consisted of the Black students at North High School. The purpose of this club was to make students aware of them-se'ves. end the role they should play. j Mr. Hope had speakers come in from different colleges to express to the students how important college is, and the opportunities open for the Black student today. Teaching the student how important it is to relate with his fellowman, was one of he club goals. 23

Y-Teens it a club which it o branch of fhe YWCA, an organization whera girlt develop better relationships with each other. Taking a different approach this year, Y-Teent became more involved with all-school activities than ever before. They sponsored such things as roller skating parties, dancet. and a ski-trip held for ell of the students at North. They also held an Apple-Polishing Tea for teachers, and offered courses in self-defense, modeling, and make-up. The three chapters wore active within themselves, learning to get along with each other, making new friends, end developing service projects end money reising progrem .
