It is in this book, in what it contains. It is what we’ve done together. Together we've made North—students, faculty, administration and staff, all of us. Each of us individually has influenced North and together we've created, learned, worked, laughed, struggled, acted, cried, written, grown .... 3 fcjNfl Accordin' to the power vetted in the Seer catalogue, you two are hitched,” oyt Marryin Sam to Eva Gregor end Tom Peterton. Curse you, Jack Dalton was the cry heard for weoks after the play production of the melodrama. Despite the numerous chonges in the cast, the play was performed well. Actors and actresses alike worked hard toward their goal. The actual preparing of the play was as much a melodrama as the play itself. Mr. Mahn, the director, helped to perfect the actors by developing them in all fields. Through voice warm-ups and vocal exercises the actors prepared their voices for the stage. Mr. Mahn coordinated the setting with what was available. Mrs. Saunders, one of North’s drama teachers, directed the play Voice of the Ghetto. Mrs. Saunders worked together with the cast to make thoir short play one to bo remembered. Citizens meet to discuss how their community system is coming along. Confronted by a young black man, the citizens are shockod and quite defensive. The young man’s god dauqhter was suspended from school for stealing and was brought to the meeting to be reinstated in their school. What her godfather was trying to tell them is that he would rather not have her go to school at all if she were to be going back to one of their schools. The system shows its prejudice throughout the play. Although the drama department has no facilities to aid in the production of plays, the improvising was an asset to any stage. Black playwright, Mr. Douqlas Turner Ward, wrote the play Day of Absence. The Negro Ensemble Company of New York first performed this ploy. North High's production receivod Third place in the Region and Ed Neal was rated the Best Actor in the district. In the play Black actors portray white roles. Complete chaos covers the town when all the Blacks disappear for one day. Stupidity and prejudice are outstanding in the play. One of the students thought that the play was quite an experience to see the roles of the different races switched and it made you stop to think. Curje you. Jack Dalfon. 9 FIRST ROW. For the Senior Class it was their last Homecoming and thoir best: tho long hours spent on Homecoming activities ... the Senior float ... decorating the halls ... the pancake breakfast ... auditorium ... football game ... donee ... the beautiful coronotion ... The sounding of horns all day long and after the victory ... the tension building up through tho entire doy, until the six lovely candidates wolked into the donco with their escorts. Then our football captains Jerry Leach and Andy Fischor crowned the 1969-1970 Homecoming Queen Ruth Spollmon. Best Homecoming I've ever seen. Fantastic, despite the rain. Muddy. These are some of the reactions to Homecoming this year. Weeks before, preparations were being made to mako this Homecoming the best: plans for the Pancake Breakfast at Uncle John's sponsored by Y-Teons. the hall decorating contest, floats, deciding on Showtime Parts I and II for the Homocoming donco. and painting our billboard. 58 And in this comar ... North's ball There was o lot of tonsion, but Homecoming was a big success, with the Polars winning over West 34-14. The dance turned out great when 700 students attended. The teachers along with the students proved North has more spirit this year than ever before, and Homecoming would have boon perfoct if we only could have stopped the rain!!! 59 Mr. Green end Charlie try to dance!!!
