North offers a variety of English classes; thus the student has a choice. He must taVe three courses during his high school career. These include creative writing, reading for pleasure. American and regional American literature, reading and newswriting. There are three levels of English open to students. They are Survey English, a basic course, and honors English offered to students who have special talents in this subject. GENICH teaches Norwoigen and English at North. Spanish it taught by MRS. BARBARA COOPER. Learn to Speak in Tongues Here we are gang, but wheres the party? MR. MICHAEL StE-BEN toachoi government economics at North. MR. TIMOTHY LARSON teaches active dramatics. MR. JACK PIXLEY teaches related arts, drama. He also teachos wood. Related arts, stage craft, and play production ore taught by MR. JOHN SYLWESTER. The speech teacher at North is MISS EDANA CONNORS. Communication is an ossential part of world understanding. It has become almost essential for one to speak more than one language. North offers Gorman. French. Norse, and Spanish to students having interests in foroign language. Norths foroign language department strives to give the studont an understanding of other people and other cultures in addition to o knowledge of the language. North's drama, speoch, and related arts department stress the use of the students imagination. Reachinq the students' inner self is the main purpose of these classes. Whether it be the mere oxpressing of an idea, vorbelly or physically, he is finding himself through self expression, and this alone is one of tho most effective ways of learning. Speech 13
