 We begin as sophomores. We become juniors; and then as seniors we graduate and plunge into the world which is ours—ours to do with as we wish. This world will remember us as we live—or forget us as we have failed to live. Tom Kennedy is one who has lived to be remembered. He has made an impression on his fellowmen and each of us at North. Mr. Kennedy came to North in 1919 as head coach of not just one sport, but of all the major sports. He began as football coach and under his instruction emerged the name of Clarence (Biggy) Munn. The Biggy Munn who was an All-American and later went on to coach at Michigan State and who is today Athletic Director of that institution. Many other famous athletes received instruction under Tom Kennedy. Through his outstanding leadership, North took more than its share of championships in every sport he coached. In 1938 Tom Kennedy advanced to the position of faculty manager of the athletic department. Through this department he has kept in close contact with Minneapolis sports activities. North has always been a leader in sports; but more than that. North has produced many outstanding graduates—outstanding because of their strengthened character gained by participation in sports—character strengthened by learning to win as well as to lose. For this and for individual understanding, we sincerely dedicate this 1957 POLARIS to you, Tom Kennedy, and also upon your retirement, we dedicate the class of 1957. Thank you, Mr. Kennedy, for letting us know you. We will remember. Page 5
