Minneapolis Public Schools NORTH HICH SCHOOL 1719 Fremont Avenue North. Minneapolis 11, Minnesota IIamt H. Maass, Principal Mkmvlh C. Diu-vxn. Assistant Principal Februa ry 9, 1956 Senior Claes of 1956 North High School Minneapolis, Minnesota Seniors: It is not news to you that you are living in a scientific age that has conquered various areas of our environment and has, through these changes, revolutionized certain phases of our lives. To substantiate this fact we need mention only one area. We have made stupendous strides in overcoming space and time. From the old ox-cart days we have advanced to railroads, automobiles, airplanes, telephone, telegraph, radio and television. We have within your space of time tapped a new source of power that lies within the tiny atom. This discovery bids to overshadow almost all else accomplished by man. America, leading the world in these accomplishments, has made the benefits derived from these achievements available to more people than any other country in the world. There are two questions we would like to ask. How did this all come about? What is resoonsible for this unprecedented progress in which we now find ourselves involved? Does not the answer lie in the fact that here in America we have made more use of our human energy and have set the machinery in motion that will use human energy to the best of our knowledge? Human energy, a force we all possess, takes its direction from the human mind. Whether your energy is used to the advantage of the human race or toward the retardation of human progress depends upon you. Human energy has been the greatest factor in the progress mentioned above; and if we have not succeeded as well in some areas as in others, it is because some human energy was deferred into wrong channels. As undergraduates of North High School, what direction have you given to the human energy you possess? As graduates of North High School may you always be a helping force in the future advancement of the progress of man. My very best wishes to all of you. May you enjoy your future by the proper use of your God given energies. Sincerely, Harry H. Maass Principal
