I t esents NORTH HIGH SCHOOL, MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA ALL THE,, WORLD'S fOREWORd A1 « _ t'Vn 1 7-1 l SZL 'yytjQ- All the world's a stage; and all the men and women merely players. We, the Seniors, are the players on the stage of North High School. When we first entered North as Sophomores, we were faced with the task of learning to play our parts. Throughout our three years of studying, we have broadened our horizons and have learned to understand the world around us. Through our participation in extracurricular activities, we have gained many friendships, and we have learned that cooperation is necessary to achieve results. By putting our knowledge to use, we have made North High School a living democracy. Now that we are entering upon a larger stage, we will try to use this knowledge in bettering the lot of all mankind. Janot Esler A STAGE... FRCM SHAKESPEARE S AS YCU LIKE IT DIRECTORS ♦ All productions must have directors. Our directors are the principals, counselors, nurse, and teachers. They all work together and cooperate with each other to have a better and more finished production. Just as Shakespeare said, They have their exits and their entrances, the students come and go, but the directors remain for another production. 5 To the Members of the Class of Nineteen Fifty-Two: No doubt your regular class work has meant much to you. At North we have tried to be helpful to eacn of you in many other ways. Mindful that all the world is a stage' and realizing that each must play his part. we feel that it is necessary for all of us so to act that we may meet the approval of right thinking people. A mastery of facts alone is not enough. It has been our endeavor to help you realize that there is joy in work well done and that enjoyment stops where indolence begins. You have been taught that good morals and good manners will go far to enable you to play this leading role which you may seek. We hope that experience has taught you that courtesy pays and pays and that he who neglects it will lose and lose. Your school years should have taught you profitable and constructive ways in which to use your leisure time. Keeping up with your reading of books of other days as well as those of the present should challenge your interest. As you approach your graduation, we hope you have already realized that which was said long ago, Studies nourish youth,’ and as the years come and go, you will agree that they delight old age . . . they travel with us. Principal To the Graduates of 1952: Your yearbook s theme is an open challenge toward playing your part in the great drama of making a life. Each of you will be playing many parts during your cycle of varied experiences, and the entrances you make are all important. You must have the courage to go to the end of the road and not deviate into the detours. Be realistic to the fact that you must adjust to new circumstances and personalities. A person cannot be two things at the same time You cannot be honest and dishonest in one moment. You cannot be both generous and hard, malicious and kind, lovina and unloving. Act your true part. The human heart cannot happily exist without some great loyalty. Be not afraid to walk and live by faith and hope and love. Life asks so much from each of us and the demands are high. But we will never live greatly unless we have faith in the future, and walk and act the way God intended us to live. May each graduate share a good measure of success and joy from life’s experiences. To you, the seniors, we place our thoughts and our most sincere hopes as you now make a new entry on life’s stage. The Superintendent of Public Schools in Minneapolis is Mr. Rufus Putnam. He is the executive officer of the Board of Education, and of the Public Schools in the city. The Superintendent gives written recommendations to the Board or its committees on all school matters. He also makes reports on the general condition of the schools, with such recommendations for their improvement as require the action of the Board. Mr. Putnam also recommends to the Board for appointment, the various administrators, teachers and other employees. Viola Marti, the Counselor of Girls, is always busy helping the girls of North High. Miss Marti is the consultant for girls with problems concerning school work, programming studies, or personal lives. She aids the girls in their job relations, works with the Senior testing program, and arranges scholarships in addition to her other work. All students are welcome in the office of Mr. Anway, Counselor of Boys. There, one can find a vast amount of information on jobs and on new educational opportunities. Helping the boys of North High to further their vocational or educational plans is the most important part of his work. Mr. Anway also counsels boys on their personal problems. Rufuj Putnam, Superintendent of Schools Viola Marti and Joan Charon Lellwyn Anway and Eugene Sadoff When you're sick, or when you're well, our school nurse. Miss Dargay is interested in you. Checking students' eyes, teeth, and general health keeps Miss Dargay and her several assistants busy all day. The yearly TB X-rays are extra things she must do. The successful administration of the extensive clerical work of North High is done by the office staff. They keep the records, issue bulletins and announcements, work in the book room, and take care of the school’s financial records. Head clerk of the office staff is Mrs. Miller. Our school library is ably supervised by Miss Helen Ulvestad and Miss Louise Klohn, who are willing to assist students in every way. The library is equipped with a wide assortment of books, fiction, fact, pamphlets. magazines, and other information necessary for school work 8 Seen very little, but always ready to help, is our Visiting Teacher, Mrs. Martin. Students with family, school, or personal problems can be sure of Mrs. Martins willingness to help solve them. Many of the school clubs that wish to aid needy families work through our Visiting Teacher. This year the task of painting the interior of North High has been completed. To keep the building heated, in good repair, neat, and clean, we have a maintenance Staff composed of janitors and engineers. Mr. Ready is the Chief Engineer and directs all of this work. The noon lunches for our school cafeteria are prepared by the Lunchroom Staff, under Mrs. Claussen. In cooperation with the Board of Education proqram. a variety of hot and cold lunches is prepared daily for all the students. Noon meals for the teachers, to be eaten in the Teachers’ Lunchroom, are also prepared by the staff. 9 Hom r F«fi«r John Jacob' Wnltor Kl«utl«r Howard Nonow Richard Smith Edward Soltyi Mary Raa Joiophton Attrid Johansen Martin Kannady lewis Burnett SPORTS Boys and girls can find sports activities to suit their interests in the North High School sports program. The realization of a job well done stimulates satisfaction, but there is also a feeling of sadness. The cast know they have made the'r entrances and exits for the last time. We, the Graduating Class of 1952, after spending the best years of our lives at North High School, leave with sadness in our hearts and with fond memories of the many experiences we have shared. As the days, months, and years have passed, our lives have beer molded by our parents and teachers. To them, we express our utmost appreciation. As the curtain falls on three very happy high school years, we are confident that we shall be prepared to accept the challenges of life ihat may confront us. 16 17 VALEDICTORIAN Robert Sadoff Northern Lights Award SALUTATORIAN Frank Trestman STAR STUDDED Fred Shapiro. Sophomores and juniors of North High have discovered that high school, like a big production, is filled not only with hard work, but with the good times that go with it. We, the graduating class of 1952, know that these two classes will be as successful in the future as they have been in the past. 42 V 43 JUNIORS One wonderful year at North High has passed for you; one is yet to come—the year when you, the class of 1953. will be the stars of the production. The different activities in your senior year, which will help to make your production the best ever, are the settings of homecoming, the class play, the banquet, senior prom, and finally the day that all seniors look forward to—Graduation Day. This production is one that will always remain in your memory, and help to brighten your future years. 323—MISS APEL Top Row: R. Abrahams. R. Andorson. R. Aich, A. Berdt, M. Andarson. Fourth Row: R. These activities help to form the character of the students and to give them good experience in leadership. Many friendships are made through these activities. 57 BAND Under the capable baton of George Paulson, the North High Band has participated in many activities at North.
