To members of the Class of Nineteen Fifty-one: You have chosen as your theme “The Atomic Age Is Ours. We hope that the period will mean much to each one of you. Opportunities have been afforded you. To the extent that you have taken advantage of them, to the extent that you have developed spiritually, morally, physically and mentally you will be able to profit during this wonderful age. As the years come and go, new discoveries, new inventions, new possibilities of all kinds will come to light. Conditions will change perhaps for better, perhaps for worse. Only people and not machines can Ik the means through which this nation may maintain leadership. In your day your generation will determine the direction we will take. Each of us has possibilities. Each of us has responsibilities. What part arc you ready, willing and able to perform ? Do you wish to become more helpful and influential than now? Fortunately, for each of us the way is open. Let us prepare adequately for the challenges that may come to us. It is the hojK that each member of the class may measure up to his full capacity. ft. Principal To the class of 1951, I leave a brief challenge. You stand at the threshold of an unknown age, which has possibilities for real greatness. The world is waiting for your services, your ideas, and your leadership, toward making freedom more secure. Freedom should not Ik taken for granted. Although we may some day expect the release of atomic power to destroy man, let us have the intellectual and moral courage to use the powers of this age for peace and improvement of mankind. I know of humanity's story of blood and wars and revolutions, but I still believe in progress. There is too much good in man to Ik lost. Our faith must persuade us that the unperformed good in us can find expression. We all have potential resources, but must not lack faith in ourselves. When we have faith, the good in us comes to light, the strength in us makes itself felt, and the hope in us makes life's rewards worth while. Your future happiness will be conditioned by your willingness to serve to make the world a better place in which to live. 6

Miss Marti Rufus Putnam, superintendent Taking over the position of new superintendent of sehools September 27, 1950, was Rufus Putnam. In his program, Mr. Putnam would like to rehabilitate Minneapolis schools. He feels that only uninterrupted progress can enable the schools to serve the students adequately. North's Dean of Girls is Miss Viola Marti, who helps students plan their programs and advises them on school problems. Mrs. Martin, the visiting teacher, helps students with problems outside of school. She visits the homes and gives advice to those who need help. When faced with a tough problem, boys at North know they can turn to Mr. Anway, their new dean, to receive expert help and guidance. Keeping the school running smoothly arc Mrs. Adelaide Anderson.
