Mr. Herbert L. Bruner has proved outstanding in the field of education because of his ability as a school administrator. Although this is his first year as head of the vast Minneapolis school system, he has already, through new and constructive policies, sought to raise educational standards throughout the city. Mr. Bruner’s reputation shows that with him has come the highest quality of leadership. • To the Graduates of 1949: Our congratulations that you have successfully reached this point in your career and our best wishes for the future of each of you. We arc pleased to welcome the publication of the 1949 annual. As you peruse these pages in years to come, may you tc reminded of the pleasure of accomplishment of that which is most worth while in school life. May any disappointment you may have had serve only as incentive for improvement. In addition to their advisory duties they assist in student programing, employment problems, the school testing program, ticket sales, and faculty extracurricular assignments. 8

Mrs. Alice Jennings, credit clerk; Mrs. Adelaide Anderson, attendance clerk; Delores Pearson, bookroom requisition clerk and switchboard; and Mrs. Mabel Miller, chief clerk, arc the members of the office staff who keep the school running smoothly and efficiently. To protect the health of the students at North is Nurse Helen Dargay's job. In this capacity she readmits those students who have been absent because of illness and thus supervises the school health program. The Student Council under the direction of Harriet Madigan carries on many significant activities for the school. The various jobs of the council include the conducting of homecoming activities as well as Student Government Day. These and many other services make this organization a very important one to the school. Officers for the year were Duane Ekiin, president; Fred McCormick, vice-president; Marva Snyder, secretary; Jeanette Mattson, treasurer; and John I vers, sergeant-at-arms. We can always get sympathetic and understanding advice from our visiting teacher, Mrs. Mac Martin. In addition to solving students' personal problems, Mrs. Martin also serves as a home visitor.
