Maass, together with our class, began life at North. Since that day three years ago. he has been as one of us sharing our joys and victories; our defeats and our moments of despair. At the time of athletic contests or interscholastic events, he has been wholeheartedly in the game, proudly wearing our colors and rooting for the home team. The interest he has shown in each of us. his cheerful optimism and his indomitable spirit have made us proud to claim him as our principal. To Mr. Maass, our esteemed principal and respected counselor, do we then, the January class of 1945, dedicate this Polaris. North's principal. Harry H. Maass. wolcomos the incoming sophomores in front of Lincoln's statu© a favorite meeting place of students and faculty. Our superintendent of schools, Willard E. Goslin, on-tered the Minneapolis Public School system in the fall of 1944. Mr, Goslin was superintendent of schools in Webster Groves. Mo., before coming here. We regret that wo will not have tho opportunity to know him better. Mr. Melvin Olson, dean of boys, and Miss Viola Marti, dean of girls, are familiar to all of us. Many is the time that thoy’ve patiently listened to our troubles. Students havo affectionately dubbed Mr Olson, Uncle Molvin. Miss Marti is always ready with o welcoming hand. DEPARTMENT Students in North's Applied Music classes are given the opportunity to learn the rudiments ot music composition for the instrument of their choice. Those who are studying with approved private teachers are eligible to enroll. Their instructor. Mr. Harry W. Ranks, meets with them once a week. Important in the music life of our school is the A Cappella Choir under the direction of Mr. Roy T. Tenney.
