Text from Pages 1 - 36 of the 1944 volume:

PolalU Album flune CloM. im fi oir of our school days. Whenever we wish to recall the faces of our former school chums, or whenever we yearn for our teenage fun, we shall look at this album and relive these happy days. While the purpose of our school life has been for studies, we will never think of school without thinking of all the fun we had and all the friends we made. The parties, the class play, the clubs, the organizations, the North athletic games—all recreational activities are what made school a pleasure, especially in our Senior year. Because of the war, this album is not so elaborate as we wanted it to be; but it will serve our purpose very nicely. Not long after graduation, many of our class, both boys and girls, will be in the service. This book will serve as a gallery of pictures of all of the members of our class whether they are serving on the home front or in our country’s armed forces, fighting to keep our liberty and our freedoms. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When, for the last time as “A Seniors, we walk through the halls of North High, we will think of you, who have gone before us in the defense of freedom, our birthright. When again we come together, either at our alumni banquet or in these very halls, the war will be over. Our youthful hopes for democracy may then be carried out in the calmness of peace. As we arc graduating from North, you are sailing on the high seas, fighting your way through jungles or winging your way to victory. To you, we dedicate this album of the June Class of 1944. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 4 Harry H. Maass, coining to North only three years ago, soon won a place for himself among faculty members and students alike. He has been interested in all activities, both scholastic and extra-curricular. Because of his helpfulness and interest in the North chapter of the National I lonor Society, he was made one of its few honorary members at the recent induction ceremony. His friendliness and understanding of high school boys and girls make him a real friend to all students. Mrs. Gertrude Shephard, Senior Class Advisor, has proved herself a sincere friend to all those who have known her. She has given much time and effort in promoting Senior Class activities and this Senior Album. As a class, we wish to extend our gratitude to Mrs. Shephard for all she has done and for making it possible for us to have the most pleasant semester of our school career. 5 riiiss Ofl'i Mkrs Left to Right: Don Biorn, Vice President: Richard Flynn. The dance started at nine with Bob Hewitt’s orchestra playing the current hit tunc, “This Is a Lovely Way to Spend an Evening. The girls in their formats and the boys in their best suits gave the Chalet a look of charm and festivity. Refreshments were served at tables in the basement. The Grand March was led by Wayne Norby, the class president, the other class officers, and the Prom Committee, composed of Co-Chairman Mary Riviere and Fred Hey with Joanne Larpcntcur, Gloria Peterson and Dclroy Pursch serving as the committee. Whew! Stuffed with good victuals we all departed happily from our Senior Banquet held May 24, 1944. Yes! Our Senior Banquet was over; the highlight of our senior year was done, but in our memories will live the clever presentation of our theme, “Time was. Time is. Time shall be.1' Helping make our banquet a success were the pleasant surroundings of the Leamington Hotel dining room. With the last notes of our class song, our evening came to a triumphant close. Our banquet was a success thanks to faculty advisors Miss Nygaard and Miss Haveson, and Co-Chairmen. Jean Skonseng and Richard Zellmer. 21 The Doctor lias A Daughter Sitting, Fiat Row: Jean Skotwng.
